That's a great pre-meal reading - shows just how well you have done since diagnosis 🙂 What did you have to eat though, as that is quite a steep rise? There might be some tweaking required with the meal - maybe an element needs removing or replacing to keep the post meal levels better.

Well done Veganlass 🙂

You have a similar pre-meal reading to what I often get (and I'm on Metformin!).

I had 2 slices of Hovis Oaty bread /marg and half a banana. Followed by 5 water biscuits and a small lump of vegan cheezily.I dont normally have the biscuits but I was still peckish. Think they were the culprit.

I am often running at 6 or 7 just over these last few days prior to meals.

Yes, there are quite a few carbs when you put it all together. You've done a great job of reducing your fasting/pre-meal levels, the next step will be keeping the post meal levels within about 2-3 mmol/l of the pre-meal then you've cracked it 🙂

Well done Veganlass keep up the hardwork🙂

Thanks folks. Yes. Reducing the carbs seems to work for me, regardless of what the dietition suggested!.I am also cut right back fat in my diet too and just using the spray fat if needed.

well done Veganlass that's a great result🙂

A suggestion veganlass,

Substitute the sandwich for a salad with a vinegar based dressing with grated cheese on top and a slice of bread.
The fibre in the salad will fill you up and your BS will probably not rise so high.

Try and aim for a rise of perhaps 1-2 increase in your blood sugar.

Are you keeping a food diary so that you don't repeat your mistakes?

Thanks Cherry pie. I have been having weight watchers bread, but sick of it so have bought the Hovis Oaty bread for a change,( 16.4 carbs and 1.2grm sugar in each slice).

I have loads of salads anyway (almost every day) and still juggling with bread.

Burgen Bread is 15grm carbs anyway, so its difficult to judge.

Not all carbs are created equal 🙂 Burgen contains much more in the way of seeds which will slow the glucose release and the impact on your levels generally - but as you say, you need to experiment and discover what works well for you and what you prefer 🙂

I am learning from your post as I am juggling with bread for my dad managed to get him to have one slice of Burgen for breakfast instead of two although he still needs cereal to fill him up. He had the lowest reading yesterday before dinner 4.8 as he managed to exercise and garden although it went up to 8.2 2hrs after :( 5.7 this morning.

Well done for gradually working out how carbs affect you. Almost sure it is bred and potatoes for dad but like you the dietician has told us they are fine
to eat. Your post has answered questions I had thank you

Pippin, if he was only 8.2 at two hours after dinner then this is excellent - anything below 8.5 at two hours after eating is doing very well 🙂

Wow thank you Northerner I was worried that was too high as it was in the upper end of the range. I worry when I read lower figures although we are trying really hard to prove we are using the test strips for improvement & education. The good thing about testing is dad is making sure he exercises and drinks more water despite the fact he is still in pain with his knee. He modifies exercise even with a crutch to support him. Today he is clipping trees in the garden (yes they need done) but he has BG levels in focus too. Using tips provided here with GI/GL when planning meals.

veganlass apologies for my wee bit in your post
