I was also referring to the added risk on our hearts due to people with diabetes experiencing higher fluctuations in their BG.
But, we all have a choice which is great both ways.
Hi @Daemonik, oh no that's such a shame you don't qualify at the moment . I think it may depend on where you live and NHS budget in that area. . I'm in Surrey and for some time I was self-funding until it became available on prescription for me. Honestly it's been such a gamechanger for me. I think you should definitely speak to your consultant but in the meantime to can get a free trial from Abbot, that's how I started
Only took statin for short time, during which had no side effects much like majority of people.
Someone mentions earlier that they help stabilise plaque in the arteries, that plaque breaking away can lead to strokes & heart attacks, this is what I was told prior to starting on statin.
Think at next appointment might discuss about starting on one again, cholesterol is bang on so would only be happy starting on a low dose long term.
My mum had terrible problems with bad aches and pains, can't remember which statin that was. Hubby has been taking Atorvastatin for 5 years without issue, his latest HbA1c was 41 (he is not and never has been even prediabetic, lucky sod).
I haven't been "offered" statins yet but am expecting to be soon. Still undecided but reluctant, depends if my cholesterol has risen, it was fine when last measured in 2018.
