I went to a presentation yesterday
LHB are trying to rationalise and get as many people onto cheaper strips as possible while at the same time permitting some choice and prescribing adequate quantities ( although suggesting 3-4 times daily as a basal bolus user as a minimum- DSN giving talk said ideally some people should be checking 6+ times daily but penny pinchers might interpret the lower quantity as the maximum prescribable amount)
So mylife pura, wavesens jazz, iBG star and Bayer as first line. Some others also permitted such as the Roche ones for the Roche pump users, and the ketone checking one where appropriate
I blagged 2 of the Jazz and my life pure and the Bayer rep also gave me a USB one
I'm trialling the Jazz and my life alongside my one touch ultra. I will go with the metre that is most consistent with the one touch as I trust this meter but am all for saving money on strips as long as they are accurate and I am prescribed sufficient quantities
So far the pura seems more accurate.
Oh and diabetes was very obliging giving me a rogue 22.8 this morning so I could try out the two new machines at the higher range!
Ypsomed ( mylife) also do minuscule prefillable syringes which are colour coded. So people that need help with their injections can get them pre filled by the district nurse for different times of day. Also handy for people who feel these are more discrete than a big insulin pen and for pump users to carry around just in case
They also do single use pen needles and lancets- they are " self sheathing" after one use. Very handy in the health care settling to reduce needlestick injuries ( new European regulations in place re these) but not too handy for those of us not too good little diabetics who don't always change things with every use or carry spares/ utensils for disposal
Lastly - see Pippa and Ben;s post on levemir
Aventis rep really p***d me off
