A nine-year-old diabetic girl never woke up from a sleepover after her blood sugar crashed fatally last weekend.

Sophia Daugherty was spending the night with one of her friends in New Castle, Pennsylvania last Saturday night.

But on Sunday morning, she couldn't be woken, WPXI reported.

Sophia had fallen into a diabetic coma, and she never recovered from the damage it inflicted on her brain and died on Wednesday at the hospital.

Terribly sad :(

Terribly sad :(

It is dreadfully sad but how selfless and brave of her parents to donate her organs to save other people in need.

I can only imagine the emotions of the family she stayed over with. They must feel devastated...I know I would.

Heartbreaking
some unbelieivably ignorant and crass comments ( "not aware this could manifest itself in children," "she was terminally ill anyway "..
Parents had to set up a gofundme page for the medical bills .... worlds fail me.
Wealthiest country contravening article 5 of the 1948 universal declaration of human rights

That poor girl and her family.

Re the comments. I would never read the ones on the DM, mainly trolls.

The comment I found most sickening was from some vegan idiot ("veganazi" as I said in my reply) abusing this tragedy to push their viewpoint. Not surprisingly, that comment (and the replies to it) have been deleted. I agree with what I read about 40 years ago: "Eat what you like, but don't tell me what I must eat."
