They are now selling this in my chemist and i just wondered what the effect of taking it in this form would be on a diabetic and could it be used to treat a hypo

I'm no expert but the quicker the glucose/carbohydrate from the food/drink can get into the blood stream the better, so naturally glucose in liquid form in theory should be the quickest way as there is not much digestion going on.

What the product called, if you can recall..........would be interested to see it....:D

Liquid Glucose is all what hypostop or hypogel is..

So yep could be used as an hypo treatment..

This is also what they give you when they are doing a GTT, and boy is that stuff sweet..

When I had one done years ago (it did come back diabetic and straight into hosptial as soon as my GP got the result) I thought I had a sweet tooth, the blood person kept her supply in the fridge to lessen the impact on the taste but, but still halfway through the measure you felt very very quicy indeed...

this is pure liquid glucose, hypostop isnt pure it has other things added . i just wondered if it would be worth buying a jar just in case

So its not syrupy, just like water basically....would be worth it probably, unless it was considerably more expensive than the likes of lucozade etc.....

The only time I would buy it would be if I could be sure of using it before the best before date. Any liquid sugar or glucose will get into the system quicker than a jelly baby. I used to know one chap who always kept a flask of warm sugary water to hand.

its about ?1.20 for a small jar. Am going to ask gp when i see him friday

Hi Gail,
it's fab for treating a hypo and tastes a lot nicer than hypo gel/stop.
Instead of the little jar, have a look in your local supermarket in the cake making dept. You will find it in a blue tube cost about ?1.19 and a lot less messy than the jar. It's made by silverspoon. Tis very concentrated glucose at that so don't consume to much of it. 🙂

Here you go http://www.silverspoon.co.uk/home/products/cakecraft/glucose

thanks sue will check with gp first

It might be difficult to measure an appropriate treatment dose with it, given its concentration.

I had a GTT last week and was given a bottle of lucozade - nothing else? Is it not the same thing?🙂
