Libre 2 to be "phased out"

(& programmed to elude git hub developers.)
Not so sure about this, if you are refering to DIY Looping. As far as I'm aware there are people using the Loop and Trio apps to DIY loop with FreeStyle Libre 2+ sensors. I'm not yet on the plus, but hopefully the plus will work with DIY looping, as I've been having great success over the past year doing so.

Yes, the continued life of this larger sensor is a bit of a surprise to me. I guess it's still commercially viable, maybe because changing production lines turned out to be unexpectedly costly or something?
I wouldn’t disagree with your balanced as usual assesment either. Keep the same body of the unit give it an extra 24hours. Whopdee doo! The Libre 2 size works fo me. But a more universal smaller unit could be better (potentially) for all? It seems to work with closed loopers on a Ypsomed pump?

Sorry. More in reference to what I’m doing with MDI? Nice to meet you.

I'd thought that since they are discontinuing the 2 for the 2+ then there would be no need to change prescriptions, it's an evolution rather than a change.

I think they're still different so prescriptions need to change. If your prescription says "Libre 2" but that's no longer available, I think pharmacists would just report that they can no longer get that item (and suggest you ask your prescribed to request "Libre 2 Plus" instead).

Nothing to apologise for. The extra day for the Plus is interesting. When using the Trio DIY app it gets an extra 12 hours from the Libre sensor. So there’s already extra battery life available. I’m curious to know if the Plus sensor will also work for longer than the specified 15 days.

Interesting. That article is dated April this year and I still haven't heard from Abbott.
What are you expecting to hear from abbot? It’s up to whoever writes your prescription to change the prescription, you won’t just automatically start receiving libre 2+

I actually suspect the battery life on the non plus Libre 2 is capable of lasting longer than 14 days? So I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same battery in the plus. Infact I’m willing to guess the battery could even last a month? A little like the transmitter on a Dexcom, it’s just the probes getting furred up being in bedded under the skin for too long & possible adhesion on the patch giving out after around 17 days too? Librelink has a set timer to stop after activation of the sensor. The circuit is completed & some users apply a new sensor a couple of days before needed to “bed it in.” So it makes sense the battery has power for 16 days with the libre two & 17 for the plus, for those who may adopt this “bed in” practise?

OK we may bung in the new sensor a day or two before the existing one expires, but we do not actually start the new one until the old one dies.

I had a bone density scan on a Tuesday which required me to remove it so my CGM changer is now a Tuesday.
I read this week that the FDA have approved keeping CGMs on during X-ray, MRI and CT, maybe the UK will adopt this at some point.

I'm having a Gallium scan which was described to me as 'like' a CT scan and was told the CGM was not a problem. No idea how similar they really are though :D

No issues with the Libre2 hardware but I wish they'd improve their software starting with multiple alarms, alarms that don't off because someone is in the app and alarms that don't reset until you're above the level of the original alarm, alarms that last a bit longer....

And agree about the 15 day change. That's going to get annoying as I know every other Sunday morning is sensor change time.

FYI - I've had Libre 2+ since May/June I think, and only had 4 or 5 last the full 15 days without either failing (some within 2-3 days) or giving ridiculously low (incorrect) readings (with a couple of days to go) - Online form on Abbott Website is great though and always had a replacement within 3 days (which is quite handy if you have them on prescription and can only order 2 a month - you can build up a decent buffer of spares at no cost to the NHS!)

@mashedupmatt This does worry me as I have such great reliability with the Libre 2 that I think I will wait until they completely phase it out before upgrading, rather than request Libre 2+ now when I can still get Libre 2s.

It might have been a bad batch as most have been perfect (particularly to start with) - and I do regularly calibrate them manually with a finger prick - the last 3-4 days left to go though (recently) I've had hypo alarms going all night (which were completely wrong) - and had 2 or 3 with ridiculous signal loss (try again in 10 mins error, and then fails to scan) I had to send back within a couple of days (as I was running out of test strips for my meter!) - that said, my latest one is bang on, and only 2 days left to go on it (and I now have 3 spares and 2 Libre 2's from the precription change in reserve lol) - as you say Libre 2 were always 90% good for me so I'm putting it down to teething problems

... I do regularly calibrate them manually with a finger prick ...
I've heard a couple of other people talk about calibrating their Libre 2 sensor. Can you please explain how to do this, as I've never seen how this can be done? Is there a setting I can put into the Libre app to match up the finger prick blood test with the sensor somehow? Or am I misunderstanding what you are refering to as calibrating. Many thanks.

Perhaps I shoulf have re-phrased that - i simply mean by comparing it (over a period of time) wth fingerprick readings and seeing how far they are out - best done when BG is stable with a horizontal arrow

Officially, Libre are factory calibrated and do not need any further calibration. Therefore, the official LibreLink app does not offer the ability to calibrate.
Third party unofficial apps like xDrip and Juggluco use a different algorithm to convert from interstitial fluid readings BG readings which allow a calibration readings to be taken into consideration.
