It looks as if my Dr is preparing to refuse me a repeat prescription for Accu-Chek multi clix lancets. Have just collected my tablet script and there is a note for me to see Dr. The receptionist informs me "There has been a change in the guidelines".

Please can you give me all the ammunition I need to persuade them to continue.

Although diagosed last April until October I was just on Metformin - initially One 1000mg and then two. Blood glucose increased so given one 30mg Diamicron (a glicazide) a meter, strips and told to test twice daily. First reading 26.3!!!! On review end of November told to increase to 2 tablets then if not down to 4 fasting level increase to 3.
Due to holiday in December when levels went to high teens did not increase to 3 until home. Last night had lowest ever night time of 8.0 and this am 7.9. Obviously I am not yet stabilised. Also the hospital clinic gave me the go ahead to start at the gym once in single figures - but I will need to test after to see the affect.

Have a read of Diabetes UK's position statement on self-monitoring. Basically, if you are using your tests to learn how best to manage your diabetes, and making use of the information provided by each test then your doctor should support you. You could perhaps take in a diary of your tests and explain how they have helped you so far, but that you do not yet feel happy about not testing as you still have things to learn from it.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on 🙂

Assuming you're still getting test strips and are required to test, the manufacturers recommend that you change lancets every time you test. They won't have it any other way. Whether this will provide enough ammo to persuade your GP to be sensible, who can tell.🙂

I use each lancet maybe 50 times. Maybe more. This comes from habit more than anything. You can only do what you've been told to do.

The multi clix lancet holds 6 needles and cannot be re-used at all. I have enough strips to last me for 3 weeks, testing twice daily, allowing for a few duplicate tests when I don't get enough blood. I suppose that will be the next argument. Have read up on the NICE guidelines elsewhere which will help me argue my corner. If they provide a meter and want to see results I don't understand them stopping supply.

You can reuse the multiclix lancets by not twisting the top each time so it doesn't move on to the next one in the drum 🙂 My multiclix got taken off my prescription once because I hadn't ordered any new ones for over a year! 😱 No reason why they should stop lancets as far as I can see, if they are still providing strips.

Just picked my scipt up he gave me over 200 lancets but has reduced test strips to 100 from 150,what gives him the right to this he's not even my doctor and knows nothing about me.

I don't think I've ever had lancets on script. The ones that come with the device are usually enough to last the years until I get a different one!

my brother was using accucheck and his surgery have given him a different meter with cheaper supplies as they said his were too expensive, he is very annoyed as he had bought a spare meter from accucheck too

Hi pippaandben,

If its any help to you I have had a change of finger pricker from the multi clix and still have 27 drums unused if you can use them PM me your address and I will send them to you,

Shirl

I'm pretty certain my son has some unused too, as so as above, PM me your address if you want them. He moved to the fastclix ones so they are just sitting in his box of 'spares'.
