Hi Abi! - why would we guess your age? even in Queen Victoria's younger days, one of her daughters (christened Abigail - plus the usual other string of Christian names Victorian children got LOL) was always shortened to 'Abbie' - and my own 16 yo granddaughter, actually named Abbie - but is AKA Abz when talking to or texting her. (Her mum is Shaz (Sharon) her Auntie (ie Sharon's older sis) is Coz (Corinne) and her own older sister is Loz (Lauren) I know not yet whether her little sister Ellie will become Elz - but her baby sis (Kassadie) is clearly Kass, so will most likely be Kaz 'whatever' !
But a rose, by any other name, would most definitely smell just as sweet - so what do names matter anyway!! LOL
16 isn't a bad age to be diagnosed, since you head at that age, is still very much in 'learning' mode - and you do have to learn a lot when you get diabetes. And it's perfectly and totally normal to think sometimes 'Why me?' - you'd be odd if you never thought that, as we all did, way back when. I joke about it now - cos it is the only thing you can do - you are still stuck with it one way or the other whether you dissolve into a puddle of tears or do the opposite - and sometimes Type 1 is OK and sometimes it isn't - in fact - just like Life itself.
The only thing to do in the finish - is just get on with it, and make IT fit in with what YOU want to do - whilst at the same time paying it the attention it needs, so that it doesn't bite you in the bum too often.
And you will find people telling you their auntie's cousin's brother's next-door neighbour had diabetes, and their kidneys failed/they went blind/their legs dropped off - so assure them that most certainly won't happen to you - and make blooming SURE you don't let it !!
Good luck!
