Is it really that dangerous?

That was something that hadn't occurred to me, the possibility of fungal infections. The DN did say I should wash my feet daily, and check for any changes. Luckily that is easier now that I have lost some weight !!! 🙄

I’ve never got on with flip flops either, I used to be able to feel the studs.

Till I got my two pair of nhs shoes, ive alway had problems buying shoes as I h@ve slightly odd sized feet , one is a whole size larger plus differing widths lol, now mine are tailor made 🙂

I love walking barefoot, so am afraid ignore the advice at the mo. I don't seem to have any trouble healing (been cut open enough in the last couple of years) and have great feeling in my feet, so am going to continue while I can.

I have to say I'd ignore advice and go barefoot if I wanted, I don't though as there is always cat litter strewn through the house no matter how hard we try to keep it clean 🙄 I wouldn't go out without shoes on either but that's cause folk round here don't give a stuff and leave broken beer bottles lying about everywhere! I would live barefoot if I could though! :D

I don’t like the idea of flip flops, precisely because they flip and flop. I used to enjoy ‘getting my tootsies out’ but after all the usual warnings, I’ve started to wear fivefingers shoes. They’re a bit unusual to start with, but a good barefoot feel with decent foot protection.

I have just had to look up fivefinger shoes, if they were not so expensive I might have been tempted to try a pair

Try having a look on amazon, some are reasonable and last a while, mine are washable too to defeat that sweaty fungal thing.

I only put shoes on to go shops or out, can't bear to wear slippers in the house. I do wear them for gardening though because there's stones and stuff. What about some nice, tasteful green wellies? :D

I have crocs for the garden. Very comfy.

You would think that now I am in my sixties I would have more sense really 🙄
Why do we have to have more sense when older. I agree about feet, but you can still take your own informed risks in your older age...says the numpty who went para gliding off a boat, via banana boat and transfer x 2 mid sea and back last year in Gran Canaria. Enough to say they brought a jet ski as “lady taxi” on way back.dont think they would take the risk of managing the return trip. Bet the men had a good laugh. My granddaughter did a great impression of a Nan Nan doing a landed fish.

Isn’ t it great to see bits of your body that were strangers

I've been wearing slippers in the house since diagnosis. Now it feels odd to be barefoot. Nothing wrong with my feet though. On the beach I use beach shoes. These can also be used in the water.

I've done that, years ago. My watch had fallen into my shoe. Don't walk, can't feel my feet. Found the watch that night. A couple mornings later I discovered a hole in my foot. (Takes a little while to break they the skin.)
Cellulitis, then osteoporosis. Healed well, after iv antibiotics and a week in hospital. But... Was not diabetic. I shudder to think of that happened now. Still, I was 4 months with a clog shaped stookie!
That sounds most unpleasant.

I've never liked going barefoot as I've always had sensitive feet 🙄
Me too. Even as a child I had problems with flat feet, and a few years ago I had surgery on my very painful bunions, so now my feet are full of staples and other bits of metal 😱. I find most sandals rub my feet sore and I prefer to have comfort! And around where I live there is always broken glass and rubbish strewn about...it's a real tip at times 🙄
