Anyone know a really good small refrigerator for storing insulin ? JonM

Welcome @JonM 🙂 Where would this insulin fridge be? Do you mean when travelling? Or do you need something small in your private room? Understanding your needs will help get appropriate suggestions.

I'm not sure of the exact model but I have a Russell Hobbs mini fridge and it's really good. Does the job and is really quiet as well. I have it to store my insulin in my room at my uni accommodation.

Hope this helps 🙂

Hello and welcome Jon,
If you can not store your insulin in normal house fridge then Lidl sometimes have a table top fridge for sale.

Something small for home. I am taking up too much room in our domestic fridge!

How much insulin are you storing to need a seperate fridge? Are you stockpiling it or on very large doses? I don’t think I’ve ever had more than one box of each type of pens in the fridge, just wondering if there’s any other things that would help reduce the amount of insulin you need to store.

I have other medications that require refrigeration one of which comes as three months supply and takes quite a lot of space. Thanks for your interest though.Jon.

Cartridges for reusable pens take up less room.
Reusable pens are more robust and better for the environment.

As a previous reply in addition to insulin I have two other medications requiring refrigeration. One comes in three monthly supplies and takes a fair amount of space.I just thought my own refrigerator may well be a good idea but reviews are not brilliant. Thanks for your interest.Jon.

I know the feeling! There are some good tabletop fridges, but my concern with the cheaper cooler type ones would be they’re more for keeping drinks cool than keeping meds at an ideal temperature.

Question - are you using disposable insulin pens? If so, changing to the proper re-useable ones will save a fair bit of space, in addition to the other benefits.

Just saw that you have other meds. If you have the space, maybe a small cheap ‘proper’ fridge would be worth it? You could also use it as an overflow for Christmas, etc

Thanks. It seems most are for drinks etc. and a lot have very mixed reviews. Thanks for your thoughts. I may just get a second domestic fridge as the extra space will always come in handy.Jon.

Many years ago I bought a small fridge, think it was vaguely similar to the Cristal Travel fridge now in Argos. I found it a bit noisy (presume it had a fan). It might be Ok in a kitchen where don't have to listen to it for long periods.

Thank you. Have gone for a Russell Hobbs as recommended. Any spare space will soon be filled.
Thanks to all who responded so quickly.Much appreciated. Now closed. Jon.

My parents kept chilled drinks in a small medical fridge in their utility room (he was a dr and must’ve got the idea - or the fridge, maybe! - from work). :D
