remember to take plenty of fluids on board water if you can.
PS it would help if you know more mature people to check on them to make sure they are well and hydrated

An important message. But it's important to know that water without electrolytes, especially in excess, can be very problematic. Hydration through food is the better option. Eat water-rich fruits, salads (especially with high-water 'botanical' fruit, such as tomatoes, cucumbers and celery).

Not sure my mum would appreciate me checking on her to make sure she’s hydrated. She’s 60 but perfectly capable of sorting herself out.

Great point: my mum's 88 and doesn't tend to drink enough fluid nowadays. However, having a good stock of bottles of Lucozade Sport by her chair seems to do the trick. Also, she makes herself drinks of Robinson's Peach Barley:

I'm 60 in August and I'd be amused if someone assumed I was too old to hydrate myself 🙂

People with dementia etc can easily dehydrate because they can lose the sense of thirst and not realise they need to drink.

We like the apple and pear barley water but I usually dilute it 10 parts water to 1 part squash or 15 to 1. Much weaker (and healthier) than the recommended dilution on the bottle.
BTW I often have to remind my hubby to drink more fluids. He is not in his dotage yet but he is very task focused and just forgets.
