Working everything out about your diet out for yourself is ideal. Don't know where you are on that
@lyndi. I found it helpful to have an a proven ready-made plan as a starting point (Newcastle Diet, Ian Marber's Man Food).
In case you are still wondering what's best, you may find Zoe Harcombe's What should we eat? (
https://www.zoeharcombe.com/2021/08/what-should-we-eat/) and Dr David Unwin's diet sheet (
https://phcuk.org/wp-content/uploads/A_5_page_low_carb_diet_leaflet_Unwin_2021-converted.pdf} helpful for weight loss and maintenance. That's what I do now pretty much as Freshwell describe (
https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/going-low-carb/time-restricted-eating/)
Getting HbA1c down to 42 is one thing, but the real reason for losing weight is to get your body, notably your liver and pancreas back to normal. Probably better to aim for the 30's.
