Arrived home from Greece on Wednesday night where I received some rotten mosquito bites. Got up yesterday and two more had appeared, one on my toe and the other on my upper arm. Popped to pharmacy and was given steroid cream and told not to pop! This morning got up to my upper arm burning hot, swollen and red to below my elbow. Called doc, he sent prescription for flucloxacillin and antihistamines without seeing me, ( that’s our surgery all over). I feel ok, have checked for keytones, all fine, but after seeing how quick Mr Eggy’s cellulitus spread I am now worried it may be that. Mentioned it to GP he said it sounded like an allergic reaction. Am I being over dramatic? As for my toe....here is a photo.😱

I can't offer any advice, but that does sound (and look!) alarming 😱 I hope that the medication does the trick, and quickly! 🙂

Eggy I don't think you're being over dramatic with the swelling to your arm...those symptoms sound worrying and could be indicative of cellulitis...I've had cellulitis I think it's important to have those assessed...if it is cellulitis it's (as you must know) important to deal with it quickly before it has a chance to progress...are you able to speak to 111...at least it will put your mind at rest...mine required two full weeks of massive doses of intravenous antibiotics...by the time I got to the hospital I was on the point of sepsis...I would definitely call 111 and get them to check your symptoms.

That's consistent with the Blandford fly (blackfly) we get round here. The bites lurk for 24-48 hrs, then come up into an itchy blister that lasts a week. Some people have violent reactions and swelling, and need antibiotics etc. I don't know if they live in Greece, but I wouldnt be surprised.

Hope your lotions and potions do the trick. If gets worse, don’t hesitate to get face to face advice. Poor you

ooh that looks nasty. I hope the bites and your arm all start healing soon.

Other possibilities are sandfly or horsefly.

Ouch! Get well soon @eggyg

Urgh - the mozzies love me as do gnats/midges of whatever nationality and though I didn't get eaten by anything else in Oz, a tick implanted itself in the back of my neck. The only blackflies I've ever seen are the teeny sort you get on brassicas but they aren't vicious to humans - I really don't fancy this 'new' lot at all.

They look nasty, I got told to phone my podiatry team when anything happened to my feet, and they arrange a rapid appointment or say go to one of their drop in clinics, hope they heal quickly.

What are your blood sugar levels like currently? Try to keep them under good control to minimise the impact of any infection.

Berry bug, Mosies and midgies love me as well. There was a program last year about midgies, they love you or not. I am going to west coast in August so Mosie repelant will be my perfume.

Redness on arm appears to be receding and not quite so swollen today. Still got the “ alien” on my toe although it isn’t as hard! 😱 BGs are stable and I feel well, although very tired for some reason. Will see what the rest of the weekend brings, typical it’s a long one so GP not open until Tuesday but will contact our out of hours service if I am worried. Thanks for your concerns and advice.🙂

Oh, good! Hope it continues to improve and you can enjoy whatever nice weather manifests itself in your part of the world.
