In the middle of the night
I called to see you.
A fog to cloud your judgement
To stay your rest.

Before you went out
I called to see you.
An interfering busy body
To delay your journey.

During dinner
I called to see you.
An unexpected guest
To ruin your appetite.

Out running
I called to see you.
A panther waiting to pounce
To increase your anxiety.

At any time
I may call to see you.
But your resilience and determination
Will always win.

Susan 23rd March 2004.

I wrote this for my husband who was waiting to hear about his application for early retirement from teaching. He had been type 1 diabetic since he was 28 and gradually the hypos became more frequent and severe. 2 years ago we purchased a Medtronic continuous blood glucose monitoring system. This has proved invaluable in helping to detect low sugars. Unfortunately the sensors are expensive and are not on the NHS. Does anyone else use this and/ or does anyone know how to apply for funding?

Hiya, Can your consultant make a direct request to the PCT for special case funding? Your husbands GP can do this too. Has your husband got a pump too?

Hypo personified! I'm afraid I know nothing about the continuous monitoring system but wanted to comment about the poem!
