Sorry Gail, I am a big tea drinker so I can't recommend anything but what is causing the thirst? Are your levels high?

Hi Gail have you tryed elderflower water its really nice and always quenches my thirst, my real thirst quencher is tia maria but cant go knocking that back hehe.

God i can relate to this. I dont drink tea, dont drink coffee. I drink flavoured sugar free water when i get bored of the plain water and i drink lots of sugar free soft drinks. Sometimes i have soft drinks so i dont find myself picking at food, which is good in a way as it fills me a bit, but i do think i drink too much fizzy soft drinks. To the extent also that in the last 2-3 months i have been waking up around 5 am prob 3 times a week (always that time for some reason) with pains in my stomach.
So i cut out the diet coke and drank water for the last 2 weeks and i have not had one pain at all.
I know this has not been much of a help, but at least you know your not the only one. I always seem to find when i tell someone i dont drink tea or coffee that they look at me like im an alien. (IM NOT THOUGH)
But anyhow, after getting a little side tracked, i have found sugar free blackberry and no added sugar blackberry juice added to water is nice.

Hi Gail,
Asking this due to another post of yours.
Have you not taken your insulin? If this is the case then only your insulin and reduced carb intake will help.

I was thinking the same. Gail what are your BGs? Please check that it isn't ketones causing the thirst if it is please take appropriate action or get urgent help

Hi Gail - being so thirsty can't be right, maybe you need to get back to the doc. I find anything with a bit of fizz with it nice and keep some carbonated water in the house and add lemon juice to it sometimes. The other thing I do is always have a glas of plain water with anything else I drink such as a cup of coffee etc (I see you dont have the hot drinks though) but my reasoning is that the plain water must be better for me than anything else so have it with other drinks to make sure I'm drinking enough of it.
If you are drinking so much that it hurts, how about sucking ice cubes? I really think you need to see someone though.

Unless You Have Been Eating Highly Spiced Food, Or Food With High Quantaties Of Salt Or Msg This Is Not Normal. Test Your Bg Now And Treat It As Appropriate. That Is Now Not Tomorrow Or Next Week!!!!!!! If It Is Over 20 -25 Check For Ketones And Ring Out Of Hours Gp Or Similar. If Over 30 -35 Get To Hospital Before You Comatose. If Over 15 Take It Easy As The Risk Of A Heart Attack Increases. Get It Sorted Now!!!!!!! Please Report Back Within 60 Minutes!!!!!!

Whenever I get a cold or anything respiratory I get very thirsty too. I find wamr drinks help ease my chest, but also lots of cold sugar free drinks too, like diet coke and diet lemonade. I hope you feel better.

Hi Gail - I know you said you don't like hot drinks so this will probably be of little use but my FIL likes warm lemonade when he is feeling ill. (Obviously you would use the diet variety).
Hope you feel better soon.

Aaaaah! Dreadful when you are chesty and have to breathe through your mouth.

What about sucking sugar-free sweeties/throat lozenges? eg Strepsils. Watch out though cos eg my faves, Werthers 'Butterscotch' still come in at 4g carb each and if you eat too many as per 'usual' you will be on the loo.

How about some homemade ice lollies/ice cubes.
Hope you feel better soon Gail.

So, with a chest infection, it might be that what feels like thirst is actually a sore throat as part of the chest infection? In that case, gargling with warm salty water might help take away the discomfort - I know you don't like drinking hot drinks, Gail, but gargling means spitting it out, so you wouldn't get warm feeling in stomach. Obviously, if the problem is disliking hot liquids in mouth, then gargling might not suit you.
Otherwise, sucking sweets or ice chips might be the way to go - as others have warned, sugar free sweets mean time on loo if you eat too many, but very small normal sweets, with long gaps of time between sweets, might be OK eg midget gems or Tic Tacs.

Phew I'm so glad to hear that as was a tad worried about you.
Have your tried the sugar free ice pops?
How are your blood sugars seeing as you have the lurgy?

Hope you are soon feeling a lot better Gail.

Likewise. I always liked mum's chicken soup when I had a lurgy although she tended to split the basic soup (chicken + veg) before adding carefully weighed noodles.
