How much coffee is to much?

I'm a total coffee snob/fascist. Instant coffee is the 'processed food' of the coffee world and should be banned. Everyone should be sent to training camps until they no longer like the taste of instant coffee! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

That's my new world order! 1984 just with Coffee Camps! (Not Camp Coffee!)

Anyway, being serious(ish)

I can handle most of the chains, but find Costa tastes a bit 'burnt', Starbucks is to watery, but sometimes OK if I don't want something strong tasting. Caffe Nero is the best of the chains. My favourite is Bean and Leaf in Coventry, a small place that does a 'pour over' that's delicious. There's another independent that's OK in the precinct.

Coffee #1 is decent, as is a local chain called Bewiched (One in Leamington).
Esquire is OK.
There's a cuban restaurant in Leamington that does a very nice coffee as well.

What winds me up most about these places is the dirty tables (Costa is terrible for that) and half of them are so full of students on laptops these days there's never anywhere to sit!

I went to a place called 'Baxter's Barista' in the Transport Museum and every table was covered in dirty plates/utensils. It was disgusting. The staff were just stood around chatting.

They need to go to training camps as well! 😉
There used to be a fantastic coffee shop in West Orchards called Hudson's which had good selection of coffees and high quality sandwiches, but it closed because the owner borrowed to open another one then the bank foreclosed on the loan. I was where the top floor of is/was Wilko

Do you mean Cathedral Lanes? That's where Wilko was.
I remember a cafe at the back when CL first opened, but it didn't last long.
I moved to Sheffield for a few years and when I came back to work, most of Cathedral Lanes was empty and the rest had been turned into Wilko.

Yes I did mean CL, you must have missed it, shame.

Wow...that's taken it to a whole new level.
Some instant actually makes me want to retch I find it that disgusting.
Don't like coffee flavoured cake or biscuits either...but I do like tiramisu.
We only have Costas in the two towns I work in and definitely getting quite grubby I've noticed. When I do make it to Lincoln Waterstones do a good coffee as do a few good independents that I like to support when I can.

it came up at my meeting yrsterday that they think i drink to muh coffee i have 3 cups a day and the p-doc said it was to much Is he right?
Hi Gail, I think it depends on how strong the coffee is and your personal tolerance level. We drink fresh brewed ground coffee at home, not instant. I cannot drink it on an empty stomach and generally have no more than 2 mugs a day. I like it fairly milky and diluted with hot water. Hubby likes his strong with a splash of milk. He will quite happily drink several mugs a day. He has stopped drinking it in the evening now as it kept him awake until the early hours.
If you reduce your coffee intake, do it slowly. Caffeine withdrawal can give you severe headaches until your body adjusts. Try going down to 2 cups a day for a week and see how you feel.
As an experiment my hubby reduced the Caffeine strength in the coffee machine at work over a few days until all the coffee was decaff. After 3 days he switched it back to full Caffeine high strength brew. Apparently all his colleagues were totally wired and showing effects of over caffeination within 24 hours. Totally unscientific, but they were working in a closed environment so had no access to food or drinks outside work .

Like everything do it in moderation

Id rather go for quality over quantity

Thanks to having cancer earlier in the year i drink caffiene free tea but have maybe 4 cups of 'full fat' coffee a week which dont think is going to cause a problem diabetes wise

Cant stand costa or starbucks.....uck!.....but im sat in a Siesta typing this and love thier capachinos or mochas.....as forinstant coffee, it belongs in the bin lol

I think I'm in trouble if they catch me and send me to @harbottle's camp, I actually prefer decent instant to real coffee. This is at least partly because the real coffee on offer has generally been stewing for quite while, but also because it's much stronger than even a strong instant. I suppose I could adapt and drink it more slowly (and therefore have fewer than my average 8 cups a day)

I'm sending them round to your house for collection.
Although stewed coffee is not nice.
In my new world order it's always made fresh from the bean! 🙂

At home I grind my own beans and make it fresh: it tastes nicer to me than in almost any cafe. I hate it when the coffee in a cafe tastes burnt, as it often does.

Oh yes, a lot of cafes/restaurant make it too hot and it's burnt. That annoys me as well.
I think I might make you Minister for Coffee Enforcement in my new world order! 🙂

I used to drink 4 / 5 a day, until seventeen years ago when I had my prostate removed , the consultant advised me to drink no more than 3 medium sized cups , and while you are learning to gain control of your bladder drink decaff , as caffeine exite's your bladder. I have stuck with his advice as it works for me.

We have a branch of the chain Jamaica Blue near us. The best “chain produced” coffee we have found. Much better than Cost or even Caffè Nero. (IMO!)

We used to buy Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee beans from a stall in Bury St Edmunds. They would also grind beans and brew them in a cafetiere so you could try different blends. Absolutely delicious
