How are we all coping

I don't like the heat or hot sun as heat exhaustion and sunburn happen very easily if I am not careful. More sensible as I have got older so I stay indoors from 11am ish until after 4pm in this heat. By late evening when I water the plants the biting insects are out in force so I slather myself in repellent. I still manage to get bitten 2 or 3 times most evenings.
Hubby tires really quickly in hot weather and it can trigger his AF.

Betty, our cat loves being outside although she snoozes under the trees in the shade. I leave a bowl of cool water outside as well as one inside. If she gets too hot she will lie on our tiled kitchen floor. It's north facing so nice and cool most of the day.

I am definitely a Spring and Autumn fan.

Managed to mow the lawns, the front lawn being my pride and joy, the back lawn on the other hand is the dogs pee lawn which just kills it.
Yes, we were up at 6am to take the dogs out, so got the lawns mowed by 11am, then lunch at 1pm (inside).

Watched a couple of films, then the woman's tennis final, um, that didn't last long.

Tomorrow we are going to visit my son for a couple of days while a good friend sleeps over and looks after the dogs.
Have booked an Italian restaurant which is not all pasta, so should be ok food wise.

How are we all coping in this not so mini heat wave, not just diabetes wise, but generally.

For us it means getting up at 6am to take the dogs out for a walk, but it does make for a very long day.
Breakfast on the patio is nice at 8am, but lunch is out of the question in 30 degrees in full sun.
Sleeping is ok for me as I take a sleeping pill, not so good for my wife or the dogs, but we do have a ceiling fan in the bedroom.

All in all we are coping, but our main concern is always the dogs

Onr things many people forget with their dogs is that if personal circumstances mean you have to take your them out in the middle of the day in that hard surfaces like the road and pavement will be significantly hotter often topping 50°C and burning paws!

We always do 'the test' before taking our dogs out. Though it's a short walk to the fields, I always step out to put my palm on the pavement and then the actual road, to check how it feels to the touch. If I can keep my hand on there without any discomfort - we go. If not - we wait. Heat, unfortunately, doesn't matter to my dogs - they'll be taking me out 3-4 times a day either way. That only means we take water and spend as much time in the shade of the forest rather than the playing fields, with breaks to just sit on the grass.
Today we opted to go to the beach, and the particular part we went to was actually the only one that was covered in mist in the NE of Scotland. Heard plenty of comments that it's because a certain politician has declared his intent to visit the area, so the weather is bad on purpose in his golf fields. Whatever was the reason, it meant there was some cover from the sun and it was actually cooler here than in the city <3

I don't know about everyone, but I've been drinking litres of water during these hot spells, either natural or with a dash of a smoothie for a bit of flavour but not too many carbs. My latest was cherry, raspberry and apple. Two water bowls kept filled for Tufty, who is not much interested in food during the day.

However, today has been our hottest, and both my friend and I had the same problem - our UPVC French doors wouldn't open or shut. Dr Google explained that UPVC expands with heat, and to use water to cool it down. My friend used an ice cube tray. I got the hose out and gave my doors a good hose down and clean. Pleased to say both methods worked and I got cooled off with the splashback!

Back to the fridge for more water!

I’m usually fine with the sun/heat, doesn’t bother me that much. This weekend though Jaysus the blood sugars and ibs have been dramatic. Distracting myself with healing the new tattoo and gardening as much as possible. Cycling would have helped but 20 odd miles would have ended me today in 30c.
Kitten has been lying infront of the fan most of the weekend, wee dote has had enough even after a good de shedding

It's to hot/humid for me it makes my bad knee worse, but on the plus side my bg levels are spot on in range 5_7

I have this problem, I can open the door but not leave it open for hours if I want to shut it again. Annoying. I have a dog staying the week from yesterday and we’re both too hot and tired for a walk so have prepared her puzzle toys

I’m on a very well timed holiday to the Northumbrian coast. All over us uttered a very contented sigh last night when we arrived and it felt cool. I even had a thin jumper on for a bit this morning.

I spent nine glorious hours sat by a lake yesterday fishing, from midday I was in the shade of the trees and there was a lovely breeze. Got home and indoors was like an oven and she told me don't stay out too long in this heat, it was better out than in

Today cleaned the pond out done a water change, remember I've got to get more active 😉

I’m not a lover of extreme heat, mostly Celtic blood, half Scots, quarter Irish, so I burn very easily. I like being outside though so I just get myself under the shade. We are lucky we have a very large bushy grapevine, which we’ve trained to go over a pergola. We have our table there too. Yesterday I hunkered under there with my book and a flask of cold water. But I gave up and had to go indoors at about 4.30. My kitchen overlooks the garden and is cooler than anywhere else so I opened my patio doors and sat on my sofa and just watched the birds from there until well after 10 o’clock, short break to have tea and pick hubby up from the pub. Much of the same today, we’re forecast rain from tomorrow so will make the most of it.

View from under the grapevine yesterday, and the view from my kitchen sofa this morning. Could be on holiday.

I had a real struggle last night shutting my doors! I thought I was going to pull them off their hinges! I did manage eventually thank goodness.

I went to the cinema to watch the new Jurassic World film with the girls yesterday afternoon, the wonders of a/c 🙂 (which is unfortunately broken in my car, why didn't I fix it in the spring..... feels like driving around Spain in the 90s all the time!)

I remember doing the same thing in Oz back in the early 2000s with my mum - we selected the longest film we could find (LotR) and sat and chatted during a particularly hot spell that summer.

It's actually quite nice outside, I just wish I had a screen front door (with a lock) and/or similar for ground floor windows to try to get the house temperature down to something more pleasant overnight/when out.

My office was 32C on Friday (gets the morning sun), which wasn't very pleasant. I've just ordered a load of fans, which may mean the summer is now over for everyone, sorry! 🙂

Looks like summer in Adelaide except the sky should be a deeper blue. Time to start digging the swimming pool!

Horrendous night with horrible scary nightmares, quite ill. I'm surviving is all I can say. I'm wearing a skimpy sunfrock, it's just not fair to people. :D

I know the weather forecasters don’t agree, but it feels hotter today to me than yesterday.

We have doors and windows closed, and curtains drawn to try to keep the higher outside temps out, and fans to stir the soupy inside air around which is a few precious degrees cooler than outside - but still bloomin hot!

Kinda feels like hiding from it rather than being able to enjoy it really :(

Thankfully, it is and it feels cooler today.
I was even “brave” enough to heat the oven for some bread baking.

Still need to remember to water the toms and chillis. The latter droops in the heat.
