How are we all coping

How are we all coping in this not so mini heat wave, not just diabetes wise, but generally.

For us it means getting up at 6am to take the dogs out for a walk, but it does make for a very long day.
Breakfast on the patio is nice at 8am, but lunch is out of the question in 30 degrees in full sun.
Sleeping is ok for me as I take a sleeping pill, not so good for my wife or the dogs, but we do have a ceiling fan in the bedroom.

All in all we are coping, but our main concern is always the dogs

Just a mini one for us in Scotland, bramble out first thing this morning, she’s got her water mat and had a mini milk ice lolly. Power hosed out back this morning, but had to give in too hot will finish tomorrow. Nice to see some sun instead off rain

Hubby is out with the dog at 5 am then that’s it for the day. He’s only 6 months old so has to be stopped doing his normal racing around. Have portable air con on the landing which cools off nicely for bedtime. BG a bit dodgy at times but it always does that anyway so prepared. All in all I love it!

What dog do you have ??

I love the hot weather but this is a tad to much, been out in the garden this afternoon but ended up coming in as its to hot and no breeze, our dog won't come outside he hates the weather mind you he is 18 years old but still bounces around like a puppy but the heat has knocked him out.

Ive spent the last 3 days using a steamer to remove the wall paper from the daughters hall/stairs/landings walls.......whilst she sits next to a pool in the canaries!!!......feel like ive been in a sauna for 3 days!........not done much walking but hopefully ive sweated some weight off

It is quite warm eh?!

I’ve really been enjoying it, though mostly cowering inside with windows shut and curtains drawn.

Dog has to go out early just once - the pavements are reaching egg-frying temps really early, so he’s been subsisting on one walk a day for the most part - and chomping lots of ice cubes!

Not for me thank you. I don't mind the heat, it is the humidity that gets to me. The air con at work is bliss.

Discovered the joy of eating cucumber, lots of it. Can't see anything on sensible websites that tells me cucumber isn't good for diabetics. Anyone know anything to the contrary?

We're lucky to live near the beach and near woodland too. The dogs had a nice long walk in the woods and a swim in the sea. Around midday, I set a temporary basal rate of -75% and still spent the afternoon circling the drain. Bonkers hot weather! = Bonkers BG!

Not well, thanks for asking.TOO HOT OBVIOUSLY BUT THE WORST PART IS, TOO HUMID. i'VE BEEN VERY BLOATED FOR OVER A WEEK. A FEELING THAT I desperately need to evacuate either trapped wind or the remains of whatever I've managed to eat, which hasn't been very much at all for about a month now.

I'm in southern Portugal at the moment, helping my wife run some family errands. It was mid 30s when we arrived last week, but we had a comparatively chilly 23 degrees today. We have found all the running around we've had to do a bit tiring though. It is of course much less humid than the UK so, with the coastal breeze, makes the heat a little more bearable. So, on the whole, I'm not doing too badly.

I have been working in my non air conditioned attic home office/sauna. It is not particularly comfortable but it is bearable.
At night, the duvet has come out of its cover and the windows are open a tad (they are closed during the day while it is warmer outside than in).

I am not exercising as much as usual. The air conditioning in the gym is not really good enough so people hog the spots under the vents. And the climbing wall beautifully illustrated how hot air rises.

My partner is complaining a lot about the heat so he gets the cooler dining room to work in. Still doesn't stop the whinging even though I find it relieving when I come downstairs for a drink.

We are eating and cooking less than usual. Bread making has been out on hold as it's too hot for proving the dough and I don't want to be near a gas mark 8 oven.
On the other hand, the fridge and freezer are welcoming, especially when dispensing ice cream.

Back when I was in my 40's this heat would have been nothing, I would have been over at the tennis courts playing tennis for 2 or 3 hours then having BBQ later. Now in my early 70's just walking the dogs is enough, age can be cruel.
Alas, my brain has not yet caught up with my body.

It’s just so toasty with my leg in a cast! It feels very well cooked at present half expecting to see steam or smoke coming out of the cast.

Blood sugar dropping so fast when I walk - walking on crutches does use a lot of glucose so it’s a double whammy with the added heat.

However I love being warm and being in the sun so a mixed review.

Well Friday was 32 so spent half the day power washing the patio and then running one of the daughters to the station. Today is going to be 29 so will finish power washing the patio and then taking it easy. Have been out and done a 6k run this morning so exercise is a tick. Might go and look at some new running shoes this afternoon. Overall not to bad despite the weather.

We are harvesting cucumbers daily from our polytunnel so I am eating some everyday. I love a nice chilled jug of water flavoured with slices of cucumber and a few mint sprigs.
