I managed to get 3. Still not sure how....
Novopen echo is on my px so could order more if i wanted.
But you should deffo have a spare. They last ages, mind, still on my first one

Why not holding out much hope? It’s a straightforward prescription request that either GP or hospital should be able to write
They did say at one off my appointments, u can’t take half units. Didn’t know pens with half units existed till came on here, but will certainly be asking

Defo push for the 1/2 unit pens (and yes, ask for a spare) - they are very useful particularly when recently diagnosed and still tinkering with your dosages/ratios

Thank you I will. Think every few weeks things change, at the moment not needing as much insulin compared to the beginning

Good luck with it, my insulin needs changes from day to day, meal to meal, having just come through the infamous "Honeymoon Period" (I have more than doubled my insulin Total Daily Dose in the past 6 months for example) - I was able to do this safely and gradually as required by using a 1/2 unit pen

Not sure if I’m in honeymoon period, how do you know, hospital never went into it much

Honeymoon period (HP, which is an awful name for it!) is where your pancreas still is producing some insulin but rather erratically - I started my T1 journey on tiny amounts of insulin but as the HP has come to an end have had to more than double my Quick acting Insulin (Fiasp, in my case, but started on Novorapid initially) - the problem with it is though is every now and again your pancreas seems to get a second wind, and pump out loads of insulin, which on top of what you have injected, can suddenly make you hypo, without much warning - an example from my own experience is waking up and assuming my BG would go up by 3-4 mmol/L as it always had done before (and it still does), but it did the opposite thing and plummeted - not very pleasant as it's so unexpected

Thank you for explaining. Think I’m the opposite used to take 6 units for 26 carb breakfast now down to 3, but think could have been anxiety pushing bg up

Interesting - have you been able to get one recently? I have a very old one which I still use but it’s getting glitchy - was told they don’t manufacture them anymore!

I have a couple - Novopen Echo @Emilycrl - got them roughly a year ago - it is great and records your dosage on your phone too if you scan it and sends to Librelink (my spare one is still in the box!) - got a Novopen 6 for my Basal too which does the same as well (but only does whole units) - definitely worth asking for - the way they were dished out to me suggests there is not a lot of difference in cost to the NHS 🙂

Ahh I use a Lilly insulin for bolus which isn’t compatible with novopen - that’s a shame.
But great info for the forum, thanks a lot

Lyumjev, I'm assuming? The cost of the Novopens is minimal as they last for years

They used to but don’t manufacture them anymore.
So I’m hoping my old half unit pen holds out for a while longer.

Hospital appointment went brilliant, what a difference a different doctor can make. He’s putting half pen through to my doctor, did forget to ask for a spare. Didn’t put my alarm down, he said to have it where I am comfortable especially for work. To keep the good work up and will see me next September
