Last weekend I found a low carb granola in the supermarket, it was expensive but thought I would give it a try, only 5.9g carbs per portion. Looking at the ingredient list it seems far more cost effective to make my own - the ingredients listed are coconut, almonds, sunflower seeds, coconut blossom nectar, pumpkin seeds, chicory root powder, cashew nuts, linseeds, chia seeds, raspberry, black currant. So no wheat or grains at all!
Does anyone else make their own up and if so what do you put in it?

Yup, and much simpler. Toast oats and chopped mixed nuts and then add a bag of mixed seeds. More seeds and nuts than oats. Eat it with plain yoghourt and a splash of milk. Buy the mixed nuts and mixed seeds from Aldi.

Coconut blossom nectar - that is sugar, by the way.

I make my own with quinoa flakes in place of oats, then adding roasted Brazil nuts and flaked almonds, desiccated coconut. Finally loads of seeds. With some yogurt it works out at 20g of carbs, which suits me. I then add some berries.

Just made some from cupboard ingredients:- walnuts, almonds, coconut, seeds, flaxseed, small amount of oats, couple of chopped dried apricots, tablespoon coconut oil and spoon of agarve nectar for a bit of sweetness. Mixed it all together and toasted for 10 mins. It’s so much better than shop stuff! Why have I never made this before? Even before embarking on low carb diet? This one works out about 10g carbs per portion.
Going to put some cinnamon in the next batch.

Hi Perfect10, Could you divulge some more details about your Granola shopping? e.g. which shop did you visit and what was the price of their granola.

The one I bought was from Sainsbury’s the Paleo Food Company, it was £4 for a pretty small box, I was just so amazed by the low carbs in it that I thought I would try it.
But... having made my own today in about 15 mins altogether, mine is far better and I can add whatever I want to it!

I'm guessing it was Paleo from Sainsbury's. Expensive but very nice. I have it with Greek yogurt, milk or sometimes naked.

I like granola, I have been getting it from asda and enjoying it. Im newly diagnosed but my nurse said I should change it to poached eggs. Am I ok to still have granola? I have it with natural yoghurt

Wow - a nurse on the right track - eggs are good, but if you have a meter and can see that the granola doesn't cause a spike or elevate your general levels then it should be OK. So much about diabetes is discovering what you can cope with.
Make sure the yoghurt is full fat for lower carbs - the reduced fat ones often have carbs added 'to improve the texture'

Made a new batch of granola this morning and discovered that it is also delicious fresh from the oven while still hot!
