Steff, I had some quite odd days with readings for a while after I was diagnosed and one thing I've learned as a Type 2 is that even with diet, exercise and pills I can go quite high from time to time - sometimes because I'm going to get hit with a cold or something as my body seems to react before I get any signs or symptoms

I'd suggest keep monitoring and recording what you eat and your readings as well as the exercise you are taking and then talk it through with your diabetic team

yeah my partner and nurse told me that in the beginning my readings can be quite erratic, i did'nt have no symptoms or nothing this morning so when i took the test i was shocked and starting panicking badly because it had never said that before,

Well last test i took was 12.1 so it's going down slowly.

ty catareta i will see GP on monday

Well Steff if you did not eat anything from the 10.1 onwards, then I can't see how it would be possible to hit the 25+ required to get a "hi". I suspect contamination, particularly since you were handling food. So either something on your hand or possibly on the lancet or lancer.

By the way you are eating almost all carbs in the mornings, at a time when your insulin resistance is likely to be at its worst. Also I use raisins as a hypo remedy - i.e. when I've dropped to 2.6 and need to get my bg up FAST.

I also think you need to rethink your testing. I can't see how a bedtime reading and a morning reading gives you any information you can actually use. Ok so you know what the numbers are. Now what?

Testing either side of a meal instead would tell you what effect that food has and allow you to make better choices in future as to what works for you.

Hope this helps.

regarding the testing i was told by nhs direct i was testing to often and that my fingers must of been in agony so she told me to do morning and evening reading only , but as you say it makes more sense to get a more accurate read doing it the times you said ,

would oat granola be ok to have for my breakfast then ?

Ask your meter 😉 I know some people do ok with it, others not so well. More bloggage:

They sent me free of charge an OPTIUM Xceed meter and if you damage it or loose it they will replace it again free of charge. Hope this helps.:D

they certainly do, i had a problem with my meter, optium exceed a couple of times last year. they dont want you using possible faulty meters. long story short, i now have three, so always have a spare if needed.:D

Sounds a strange system.

If you are at the surgery on Monday, ask about a different meter.

I'm pretty sure my meter came with two control solutions too (Accu chek aviva).

They are quick too - I asked for the software to go with my meter and it came the next day by courier!😱

'We're all ignorant, just on different subjects'

My ignorance of the range of available meters shows up here. Apologies.
I was used to the Lifescan range with only one control soln.

I grovel again, but notwithstanding, I would be looking for a second meter.

Same meter and also got two bottles of control solution. Have been wondering how on earth I get them replaced when I get low. 🙂 So just ring Accu-check up and ask nicely?

And what software is this? 😎

Yup, just ring them and they're more than happy to help! The software allows you to upload your meter readings to your pc where you can then see various graphs and statistics. Saves typing them in and can help highlight patterns. The software also comes with an infrared reader that plugs into the serial port of your pc and you point your meter at to operate.

I'll let it pass, just this once John...!:D
