When she phones back, ask which tests were done and ask if you might be Type 1 rather than Type 2 and can they do the tests for that. Those are the GAD antibody and C-Peptide tests..... or push to be referred to a specialist diabetes clinic where a consultant can authorize these tests and interpret the results. It is detrimental to your health for levels this high to continue (even if you don't feel ill) so please do be assertive about getting something done if your HbA1c is high..... and do make sure to ask the actual number. Don't be fobbed off with it is high or it is satisfactory or above normal or whatever. You are entitled to know the result in numbers.
Unfortunately we have to be proactive in managing our own medical conditions because the NHS is struggling and sadly in some cases, letting people down. Knowledge is power, so learning all you can about diabetes and carbohydrates in food and knowing your results in numbers is all important.
