When she phones back, ask which tests were done and ask if you might be Type 1 rather than Type 2 and can they do the tests for that. Those are the GAD antibody and C-Peptide tests..... or push to be referred to a specialist diabetes clinic where a consultant can authorize these tests and interpret the results. It is detrimental to your health for levels this high to continue (even if you don't feel ill) so please do be assertive about getting something done if your HbA1c is high..... and do make sure to ask the actual number. Don't be fobbed off with it is high or it is satisfactory or above normal or whatever. You are entitled to know the result in numbers.

Unfortunately we have to be proactive in managing our own medical conditions because the NHS is struggling and sadly in some cases, letting people down. Knowledge is power, so learning all you can about diabetes and carbohydrates in food and knowing your results in numbers is all important.

Doctor called me today. Results of blood test was 80. She is planning to keep me on current meds but has decided to prescribe injectable medication into the mix. i forgot to ask the name of medication. I am currently on Empagliflozin 25mg once a day alongside Alogliptin 12.5mg/Metformin 1g tablets twice a day. Anyone got any idea of what the new med might be?

Sorry I totally fell to bits when she phoned me this morning and forgot to ask questions.

Might be a class of medicine called a 'Glucagon like peptide 1 receptor' like Semaglutide - these increase insulin production after a meal, I believe and delay how food is digested.

Doctor prescribed Ozempic alongside my other meds which I started today. I've also downloaded the freshwell app and planning to embark on a healthier diet with a lot less carbs. looking at the carbs in certain foods has been a real eye opener for me. Thankyou to everyone who offered advice, it is very much appreciated. Hopefully things will improve for me now.

Yep, Ozempic is a brand name for Semaglutide.
Keep us updated with your progress!
