Hi peeps,

I’m naturally a bit of a skinny bean! I’ve got this long running conumdrum of how to keep up high calories with low carbs without risking stuffing up my gall bladder from eating too much fats and eat enough to not be hungry. I find veg does absolutely nothing to make me feel fuller for longer. Am I thinking the way to go is Keto? Until I became a diabetic I could eat anything and still remain skinny but can’t do gluten now. With my job being physical I need the calories.

Increase your protein intake? Would that be an option?

As far as I am aware there is nothing to suggest that increased fat causes gall bladder problems unless you already have them.
I did wonder when you were basal testing and said you were hungry if it was because you weren't eating enough fat. It makes such a difference.

I thought it was low fat which meant that the bile remains in the gall bladder too long and stones form.
The bile is pushed out to emulsify nutrients ready for absorption, so eating some fat with each meal is - I'd have thought going to mean a healthy gall bladder.

I had gall bladder problems for a few years before being diagnosed with Type 2.
I went on a low fat diet and it did not help and I think added to the reasons I developed type 2.
Since I was diagnosed with type 2 and went onto keto and started eating a high fat ( unprocessed fats ) diet I have not had a peep from my gall bladder for over three years. I do eat a lot of fibre as well and drink plenty of water. I have not lost any large amount of weight during that time - just maybe a stone over three years without trying (and I needed to lose weight to be more comfortable) I just feel like my body has settled into a better equilibrium.
It is quite easy to eat plenty of calories on keto by balancing your fats and proteins and veg and fibre and have a very nutritionally dense diet with all the vitamins and minerals you need.

Yes I’m sure your right Barbera, but then it’s not been a conscious thing for me . It’s just how it’s been for me , but now having seen so many people including my husband having to have his gallbladder out and what he went through and him having to go on a low fat diet as without it he can’t break down the fats properly I’m very conscious of over doing the fats now in our meals.

I thought that the gall bladder was the storage mechanism but if removed the bile duct remains intact and the bile still mixes with the contents of the gut to emulsify the fats. It has to go somewhere, after all.
If you do not have problems with your gall bladder then it might be wise to keep to normal fat levels so as not to risk the production of stones. Having been pushed to eat low fat so often several times I had sharp pains when I returned to my normal diet and had to get rid of the sludge which had accumulated. A pat of butter on the veges on your plate should be all it takes to prevent such things.

No, the ball bladder doesn't sludge up.
Cholesterol from animal fats cause the stones.
In fact, thinking about fat is often enough to trigger emptying of the gall bladder, it's not clever enough to trickle out a metered dosage of bile based on your stomach contents.
As you say, there is a steady trickle, it just refills and empties again on the next meal.
A pat of butter on your veges could be all it takes to tip the cholesterol over the edge.
But we all take out choice.
