Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi everyone - Just joined the forum and thought I'd introduce myself as per the lovely welcome message I got.

I've had diabetes since 1977 (I was 2) and basically lived with it my whole life. On an insulin pump (Medtronic) and freestyle libre (awesome piece of kit!!)

Suffered all of the different treatments (incliding the needles which seemed and felt 3" long back in the late 70s! One of my earliest memories sadly!!) but finally found the one that suits me best.

Never used my diabetes as an excuse - always involved in sports and healthy activities and am a very keen runner (trying to get into the London Marathon next year!!)

Diabetes does not define me and I will not let it impact my life.

Hi Marcus, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sounds like you have developed a good attitude there 🙂 I ran my first marathon (Sheffield, not London) in 1984, although that was long before my diagnosis, in 2008! 🙂

Hello and welcome Marcus.
Very pleased to hear from another type1 who has the same views re diabetes as I do 🙂

Hi Marcus.

I think those needles were 3 inches long weren’t they!?o_O The smell of surgical spirit never fails to take me back there.

I echo @Pumper_Sue ’s message.

Welcome along.

They weren't needles they were harpoons 😱 like others I remember them well.

Hello and welcome Marcus 🙂

I remember (not fondly) those great big needles and the fragrance of surgical spirit. Thank goodness for progress and technology 🙂
