Hi Dani, welcome to the group

HI @DaniB
Welcome to the forum
There will be many who will come along to offer you support, guidance and help so don't worry.
I was diagnosed T2 in September last year and it is not the end of the word believe me.
It is a lifestyle change for sure but you can quickly get your BG levels under control and lead a normal life.
I view it as an inconvenience and nothing more.
Wait until you see your Docs next week but there are somethings you can do fairly quickly.
Carbs are the the nasties and by keeping to a low carb diet you can control your levels without to much difficulty. The other important factor is to test your BG levels with a meter. That way you know which way you are heading.
Keep in touch and let us know how you get one
There is a very good note and letter, I cannot find the link but I know @Northerner Admin will be able to point you in that direction which makes very good reading for a newbie.
Good luck
@Northerner hope you don't me mentioning you

Hi DaniB, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about your diagnosis 🙂 How did it come about?

It can be helpful if you have some idea of what it is all about before you go in for your appointment, so I would suggest having a read of the excellent Maggie Davey's letter (which Vince has referred to). It will give you a good overview and help you at the appointment, as often the information your nurse or GP gives you can go right in one ear and out of the other when there is so much to take in. I'd also recommend getting a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker, which will guide you through the early months in a positive spirit and frame of mind 🙂 At your appointment ask your GP for a blood glucose meter and a prescription for test strips - they may be reluctant, but it is the best tool at your disposal for determining your tolerance for different things, and therefore able to tailor your diet to suit this. Read Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S to understand how this works 🙂 No motivated person should be denied this facility, so be prepared to stand your ground if you are told you don't need to test, they are only trying to save money, and without it you will just be guessing. You won't need to test forever, just whilst you establish what foods you tolerate well, and what you should reduce or remove from your diet - this can vary from person to person, there is no simple list of 'healthy' items that you can work from, and anyway, that would probably be unnecessarily restrictive. Why cut out things you have a good tolerance for if you don't have to? 🙂

Diabetes is a serious condition, but it can be controlled well with the right information and application, so never be afraid to ask if there is anything that concerns or confuses you - even if we have heard it a thousand times we will always be happy to help, as we all were once where you are now 🙂

Hi DaniB, the best thing you have done today is to join this forum! :D You are most welcome to discuss, question, whinge, rant, pass on recipes, or anything you care to talk about. This is a great place for information, advice and support, so please heed Northerner's excellent post above and keep in touch. All the best to you 🙂

Hi and welcome to the forum. Your journey doesn't start at your appointment next week, it started the moment you signed up to this forum that is full of very knowledgeable and helpful (and friendly) people.

I am new to this forum but have been type 2 since November 2015-managed it by myself and with diet until November last year when I was put on Metformin but now feel I need support from others as I'm floundering. My glucose levels are high (10/10.9/12.9 fasting ones for the last few days) and I am beginning to feel I'm losing control over it. Any advice would be welcome- I keep to a fairly low carb diet and I cycle (although not as much as I could) but my levels keep rising, also feel guilty for being a moaning Minnie as there are far worse things to have to deal with.

Welcome Dani from a fellow T2.

Hi Dani & Zillah - Z why don't you start your own thread, and tell us a typical day for you - activity, what you eat, how much Metformin you take, what your BGs do at different times .... everything !

Thanks for the reply Jenny.... I’ll do that as it would be really helpful to see where I’m going wrong
