My diabetic nurse, has suggested a change to my uncontrolled diabetes meds. Are any of you on a weekly injection on top of oral meds daily.

I know some are… hopefully they will welcome you soon. Anyhow, a big welcome from me… if your struggling then there is a lot to be gained from joining us lot. Feel free to ask anything, vent or just tell us what you had for breakfast lol! Tonnes of support here xx

Welcome to the forum
Would you like to give an idea of what your HbA1C is or examples of your glucose levels which is making your diabetes 'uncontrolled'.
What oral meds are you currently on and are you following any dietary regime to help.
It is easy to assume the meds will do the trick without reducing your carbohydrate intake but that is the most powerful thing you can do which has impact.
Many people find a low carb approach works so re-evaluating your diet may be worth it. This link may help you with some ideas for modifying your diet. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/

Your HbA1C is not desperately high now but I assume it has been much higher.
Have you tried testing before and 2 hours after meals to see where your problem foods are as you do seem to be on lots of oral meds.
What sort of meals do you have?

I can eat exactly same food 2 days running. I get up some morning and over 10. Then next morning around 4. Very erratic. Tried not eating high carb. Ie pasta rice bread potato. Less sugar fruits like berries. High to low, high to low. My hbA1C readings have been 42 and in 90s over past 2 years, eating more or less same fiods and exercise. As I said in previous message, think stress has big impact. KEEN TO KNOW IF THIS INJECT MAY HELP

Welcome to the forum @Jc57

Hope the change in medication is a positive one. Do you know the name of the injection you are being offered? Is it calked something like Ozempic or Duraglutide?

the non insulin injectable will be from the GLP-1 range
This is a little bit about them and how they work and maybe a starting point to find out more.

I'm not on them personally so can't comment on how well they work 🙂
Thankyou. I did look it up, but hoped to have personal info, so I arm my self with questions, when I have apt with diabetic nurse. X

Hello everydayupsanddowns
I've only spoken on phone, with nurse, briefly. Seeing her face to face, in couple of weeks. She has so far said, non insulin, once a week injection, may be a option. Possibly will be one of the ones you mentioned. As it's the first time I have heard of a weekly injection, I was hoping, someone has been given this option, on the form. .. My gp said, before Christmas, that I may be need insulin, on top of the tablets she has so far prescribed. Refured me to hospital diabetic nurse. This will be my first appointment face to face, to talk about next options at hospital. I want to gather questions, ready for the appointment. Thankyou

If you do a search for ozempic or semaglutide you’ll find lots of personal experiences

Hi @Jc57
the once a week non insulin injection your referring to will be either a semiglutide or dulaglutite (they call these GLP-1receptors) I’m no expert but am on this was referred about 18 months ago now.

I wish I had been put on GLP-1 a lot sooner it’s helped me.
