Hi Janet when were you diagnosed...have you been given any advice by your GP or diabetes nurse?...I expect your GP is prescribing Metformin as it's pretty standard for type 2 diabetes...are you able to tell us a little more about yourself...do you know what your blood glucose levels are … has the doctor given you those details...if we knew a bit more about your circumstances it would be easier for members to offer the right support/advice...are there any specific questions you need to ask...if so post them here...I expect one of the members will be able to answer it/them.

Hi @janet57 welcome to the forum.
Yes it’s carbohydrates we have to watch out for. Sugar in all its various forms is just another fast acting carb which in the uk is already included in the carbohydrate content usually on the label on the back of the pack, so you’ve no need to check for the sugar content.

It’s mainly the fast acting carbohydrates we need to reduce or replace, ie potatoes esp mashed, rice, pasta, breakfast cereals, things made with flour esp white , bread exp white , fruit juice grapes and fruit that originated from hot climates.

Have a read through these threads.

We have some good innovative cooks on here

Diabetes is very individual in how the various carbohydrates affect us and the only way to find out is by testing ourselves so we don’t cut out things we tolerate welland cut down/out things we don’t , initially directly before and two hours after starting to eat.
