Hello!

I have been diagnosed Type 1 since 2012 but I am new to this forum. My dad is also Type 1 Diabetic, but other than that, I don't personally know anyone else with it.

As we all may know, it can feel a little lonely sometimes so I am just looking to feel involved in the diabetic community.

I have been diagnosed with BGR (this week) which has scared me quite a bit. I have switched my diet further to include less carbs but am now having very low readings in the 3's. I have never had a DAFNE course so I feel I am still trying to find the right insulin dose for me. I am a little worried but feeling very motivated to get back on track and not let diabetes win.

I love reading blogs and I am toying with starting one myself. If anyone has any diabetic related blogs or have their own they would like to share then please do!

Thank you 🙂

Hi Shay93, welcome to the forum 🙂 Look, you've just increased the number of T1s you know by hundreds! :D What insulin are you using? By 'BGR' do you mean background retinopathy? If so, try not to worry too much - this is something that can resolve itself or remain dormant as long as you maintain good control - some people here have had it for decades with no progression. Absolutely the right thing to take it seriously though, so I hope you are able to improve things with the changes you plan 🙂

You might like to read the Diabetes Fairy's blog, where she went 'couch surfing' around the country (and beyond!), spending time with some of our members and getting her eyes opened to what it's really like to live with diabetes (she thinks she knows everything! 🙄) :D Just click on the link in my signature 🙂

Beware the diabetes fairy. Wrong name, should be the diabetes goblin. She was island hopping last evening and magicked me a hypo. 😡

Hi @Northerner
I am on Lantus and Novorapid. Yeah, I have background retinopathy :( a little scared but I hope that I will be able to make some changes that will help keep my condition dormant.

I will be sure to check out the blog. Thank you 🙂

Hello to Shay.

Hello and welcome @Shay93 🙂

It's wall to wall with all types of diabetics on here, no need to feel lonely 🙂

Is there a DAFNE or equivalent course you can ask your DSN or diabetes team to refer you to in your local area?

Hello Flower,

I am in the process of possibly moving to another doctors surgery. They haven't been much help and I feel I am not recieving the care I need (cannot remember when my last HbA1c was!). I am calling another one in my local area, they seem to have diabetic clinics so that I can hopefully get some of the help that I need.

I would love to go on a DAFNE course or at least gain a better understanding of my carb to insulin ratio.

Hello Shay93, welcome to the forum. 🙂

Hi Shay welcome.

Hi Shay and welcome to the gang 🙂

Hi Shay and welcome to the forum. 🙂 Definitely push to try and get yourself on a DAFNE course. A number of areas including mine do a DAFNE equivalent. I went on it last year after 30 years of T1 and still managed to learn new things. One of the best aspects for me was meeting fellow T1's.

Hello Shay and welcome to the Forum. I don't know much about Type 1 so not much help, I'm afraid. I have heard though that the DAFNE courses are good so I hope you can get on to one. It is a shame your GP surgery is not helping you.
