Hi, I'm new and lost!
I feel I've suddenly lost my sight and fumbling in the dark!
I have no clue to meals
I have no clue to carbs
I have no clue to checking bloods
I was told yup type 2 take one tablet before meal.....
I did make appointment with diabetic nurse but they made a boo boo....so here I am looking for some help....anyone?

***A HELPING HAND****
Its a little sour this no sugar lark
I'm fumbling here in the dark.
I search the web for the best advice
But what I fancy is korma and rice!
This is good, that is bad
Make your mind up, I'm going mad.
I will loose this excess I carry about
I will be a changed women,I have no doubt,
But please can someone help me please
Or I'm off to eat that chunk of cheese.
I'm sure I will get there in the end,
But a helping hand please do send.
Thank you all who stopped to read
Ill go have a cuppa and nibble on some bird seed

Aw many thanks for your reply, very kind.
Heres to a new begining🙂

You are very welcome. Yes indeed heres too a brand new adventure for us both 🙂

Welcome to the forum. Great poem! If you browse around you may find some by our very own @Northerner who has a knack for crafting hilarious poetic diabetes tales in rhyme.

At the suggestion of another member I've moved your thread to the 'Newbies' board so that more people will find it and be able to say 'Hello'.

How long have you been diagnosed?

hi, great, many thanks for the help, I am sorry for doing it wrong.
I was just pleased id managed to even get a post out there, pretty shocked it worked hahaha.
Ok serious stuff now....
I was diagnosed monday, (type 2)
given tablets Tuesday and that was that.
I had call from 'DESMOND' today saying appointment is end July or mid August,so I'm booked on that, personally I feel that is way too long because I feel I will burst with the many questions I have, and am pretty shocked that things take so long, especially all being so new and very unclear.
This is why I joined this group

Many thanks for your compliment in my little poem

***UNTIL THEN***
Desmond does seem to be just the biz,
To educate and inform and say as it is.
I'm sure it will answer my list oh so long,
And will explain what's right and what's wrong.
I believe a whole day is what it does take,
I wonder if theres tea and diabetic cake.
A month or so I'm told is what I must wait,
The questions I have, I will pop at this rate!
But I suppose its a start and that has to be good,
I will be taught about diet, carbs and checking my blood.
Until then I wont eat anything sweet,
And I promise to keep an eye on my feet!
Healthy is my focus, indeed oh yes,
And my goal, to fit in that christmas time dress

No worries at all - you didn't 'get it wrong' as such, it's just that 'Off topic' is usually used for general chit-chat rather than diabetes-related stuff so it felt like your thread would get more responses here.

I've not done DESMOND hope it gives you some good information. In the meantime, you might find some of the links and resources on the 'Newbies' Useful Links thread helpful https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/threads/useful-links-for-people-new-to-diabetes.10406/

The Type 2 stuff is about half way down the page, and the 'Commonly used abbreviations' (at the top) may well come in handy if you get befuddled by baffling abbreviations and acronyms in people's responses!

Hi Sandy and welcome :D
Great verses :D im new just 14 weks in, but i cut carbs, c**p and sugar :D

Hello and welcome to the forum Sandy. 🙂

But what I fancy is korma and rice!
You can have the Korma just eschew the rice. You can have cheese as well, on Atkins I'm allowed four ounces a day, it's great. :D You'll soon get the hang of it.

Hi I am also new to the forum, I had to wait over 3 months for the Desmond course but it was brilliant and informative and corrected incorrect info given by so called Diabetic Nurse, I am still getting to grips with it but everyone here is really helpful !

Hi Sandy...it does seem a long time to wait for your DESMOND course...I was diagnosed last July...didn't do the course until November...you may find by the time you attend you are far in advance of what they have to tell you...two things helped me so much with managing/controlling my diabetes...firstly joining this forum...secondly a book by Gretchen Becker...called Type 2 Diabetes The First Year...she is diabetic...takes you through her first year month by month...from her diagnosis to how she managed to get control of her condition...she explains how/why...the importance of testing your blood glucose (sounds daunting it's not... really a very simple process)...I have recommended this book so often...wish I'd written it...imagine the royalties...the lack of information is frustrating...the length we wait for education courses equally frustrating...some have found the DESMOND useful...others not...it can rather depend on how long you've been diagnosed before you attend...bearing in mind it is for 'The Newly Diagnosed'...most of what I needed came from forum members here before I attended mine...I did some research...and of course devoured the book I've mentioned above...Diabetes is confusing...contrary & just downright maddening at times...however...you will get to a place where what you need to do manage your condition will fall into place...a lot of it is adjusting your diet...finding what suits you...what foods I can tolerate...may not be suitable for you...diet is very much an individual affair...take your time...find what suits you best...that way it is more likely to be sustainable in the long term...are there any specific issues you need advice on...post any questions...members will be happy to offer advice & support...without any judgement or disapproval...good luck...keep us updated...I would also echo the same points to @TJH who is another new member.

Hello to you Sandy.

Just stick around and mull over the different suggestions.

Welcome to the forum, I had to wait 6 months before I had my course, as Bubbsie says you will have learned a lot from here by the time you do your course. Having said that I still found my course very informative and useful.

Hi everyone, I'm pretty much going around and around. Can I ask why my sugars have gone from 7.8 before my meal to 19.1 two hours after????

It might help if you tell us what your meal consisted of x

Hi, I have been on a very strict diet since being told I have T2 and have never stopped once. I have-
Zero sugar
Less carbs
Low fat
No red meat
More fish
All white is out
Only brown is in(pasta,rice,breads)
That's pretty much my guideline.
Yesterday I had for
Breakfast one egg on toast, tea, banana.
Lunch half salad roll,tea
Dinner salmon and oven chips, tea banana
I understand sugars will go up and down but mine is high.
Now at 7 am it is 9.8 which is still high, thanks for any advice

Hi Sandy...I suspect those higher numbers last night were a result of what you ate...although you can never be certain...with diabetes could be anything...stress...something coming on (cold/infection)...even anxiety about reducing your blood sugars...diet is very much an individual matter...what suits one diabetic may not suit another...it can take some time to find a routine that works for you...why not take a step back...don't rush...refocus...have you had a chance to read the books/threads recommended...sounds like a lot of hard work...however it is worth the initial investment...will give you a good understanding of how to manage/control those BG's...as for those waking blood sugars those are usually the last to come down...9.8 is high...not an ideal waking figure...but...once you settle into your own routine...keep working on your diet lifestyle...I've no doubt it will reduce...just a word on diet...many find bananas do spike their BG's...brown bread (even wholemeal) can also raise those sugars....chips again some do well with those...others don't... I still eat read meat...have high protein bread...that works for me...all about experimenting...this is where testing regularly is invaluable...as said just pull back a little...refocus...you are heading in the right direction...it won't happen overnight (figure of speech)..but....with your resolve/commitment you will get there.
