Hi Rob and welcome.

Has the rehabilitation unit /hospital dept you are at got any advice or support groups that can give you practical help on living with an amputation? I narrowly avoided a below knee amputation about 15 years ago and went to the Douglas Bader unit to see where I would go for rehabilitation after the operation and I remember there was a help group there. Perhaps the diabetes uk careline could help suggest where you might be able to find specific practical support.

I wish you well with dealing with it.

Hi Rob
Welcome and I hope that you find it good to be part of the forum.

Hi! It was the amputation really. I'm a practical person and I've just got specific questions about things?! I mean without being too graphic I'm a young-ish man you know, leg on or off when I get lucky?? Lol that sort of thing
Been struggling to find anyone who can answer
That's specific. As an woman older than you, thinking back to when I was 35, I think I'd like to get to know a man for a while, so that by the time "getting lucky" came round, we could work out whether leg on or off would work best. Being practical, I guess it's down to how well it fits when lying down.

There's a list of local support groups for amputees on this page http://www.limbless-association.org/index.php/directory/user-support-groups. Any of them any use to you?

Any use for you? - otherwise, by Googling 'local support groups for amputeers' I happened to notice the West Midlands one, and thought perhaps they might be part of something else with a similar geographical list and then saw that the chap who started it doesn't look particularly ancient, and says what he did to get it going.

You can always advertise such things - ring your local paper, try and get them to do a short article about your wanting to have someone in the same boat to chat to - and see what that brings?

Thanks Jenny, I'll have a look at those groups
