Type 2
Hello everyone! I've recently been diagnosed with Type 2 (back in Feb 21).

I've been on Metformin since diagnosis, which has been going fairly well (other than the odd dodgy belly), and have been making diet and lifestyle changes.

Nice to meet everyone!

Beginning of the year for me but managed to avoid the Metformin (the GP was 2 weeks behind the nurse practitioner). I've just finished the Xpert course. How you doing?

Hello. I'm new here too.
Cani ask what your diet consists of?
Previously I ate a huge amount of carbs - bread and rice were the worst for me.

I've cut them almost entirely out, and my meals tend to be like the following:

Breakfast - plain yoghurt with some frozen berries added.
Lunch - Wholegrain Ryvita with some cheese and meats
Dinner - Salad with drizzled olive oil, and garlic prawns.

The main adjustment has been snacks - no more crisps. I've been buying things like jerky, or chorizo/smoked sausages instead to snack on. I've also found that cutting down on carbs has left me more room in my weekly food budget for some really nice treats like smoked salmon, or letting myself have a steak once a week, so it's had some really nice upsides.

Pretty good! I had a few instances of light nausea, but otherwise fine. The biggest issue I have had has been remembering to take the second dose in the evenings, as I tend to take all my meds in the morning. I've had a few moments where I've gone "What have I forgotten? MEDS!" and had to rush off to take the second dose.

Welcome to the forum @ExMachina

Sounds like you have made some big changes! Glad to hear you are feeling positive.

Were you told your HbA1c result when you were diagnosed? This is (roughly) an average measure of your blood glucose level over the previous 3 months or so - and it can be helpful way of understanding how much of a task you may have ahead of you.

I think it was 78? Does that number make sense? I'm confused, because I don't know how to compare it to my BG meter readings.

78 does sound like an HbA1c result. You can't compare it directly to your BG readings, it isn't measuring the same thing and it isn't intended to!

The only way you can compare is to say if every BG meter test result was mega high then your HBA1c would be a higher too!

On diagnosis, many on the forum have had initial results in 3 figures - but some of them have succeeded in getting their diabetes into remission by paying careful attention to their diet, exercise and any drugs they need, either anti diabetic ones or for other medical reasons. No reason why you can't do the same - but it doesn't happen overnight so it's a matter of plodding away at it in a manner that suits you - and the forum will try and help you however you wish to approach your diagnosis.

That’ll be it!

48 is the cut off for a diagnosis, but as @trophywench says, several members here started in the 100s, and have been able to get their diabetes to behave, with a variety of approaches.
