Hi, thanks for your reply.
Two weeks ago, I started to get a dry mouth and very thirsty. I went for blood tests and on Friday I was called to the doctor and my sugar was 24. Now it is down to 12.8 since I have been on pills but still it is far too high. I hope I will not have to take insulin.
Went to Sainsburys yesterday to buy a new range of healthy foods. Just got to learn to cook now LOL
How long have you been diabetic? How are you now?
Hi Jezz, welcome to the forum
🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis

Have you only experienced these symptoms for a couple of weeks? Any others that might, in retrospect, have been going on for a few months, like tiredness, going to the loo a lot? What pills have they given you?
The good news is that you've found us very quickly and are determined to tackle it
🙂 Diabetes is a serious condition, but it can be managed well with the right knowledge and a bit of effort, and often people find it leads them to feeling happier and healthier than they may have done for some time
🙂
I'd suggest starting by reading
Jennifer's Advice and
Maggie Davey's letter, and getting yourself a copy of the excellent
Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. These will all help to give you a good understanding of what it is all about and how to tackle it. I'd also recommend looking into the GL (Glycaemic Load) diet - this is an approach to selecting and combining foods so that they have a slow, steady impact on blood glucose levels, and should help you with the types of food choices you make - it's often a revelation to discover things that we thought were 'healthy' aren't really that healthy. Moderation in everything is usually the key!
🙂
As you appear to have a meter to monitor the effects of food on your levels, you should have a read of
Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S which explains how to do this efficiently and effectively
🙂
Any question you may have please ask!
