Hi, thanks for your reply.
Two weeks ago, I started to get a dry mouth and very thirsty. I went for blood tests and on Friday I was called to the doctor and my sugar was 24. Now it is down to 12.8 since I have been on pills but still it is far too high. I hope I will not have to take insulin.

Went to Sainsburys yesterday to buy a new range of healthy foods. Just got to learn to cook now LOL

How long have you been diabetic? How are you now?

Ah the good old drink for England scenario yeah remember it well. Well you have nearly doubled down your bloods so that's good can only get better . I've been diagonosed since 09 and initially was put onto pills but now more recently I'm on insulin

Hi Jezz, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis :( Have you only experienced these symptoms for a couple of weeks? Any others that might, in retrospect, have been going on for a few months, like tiredness, going to the loo a lot? What pills have they given you?

The good news is that you've found us very quickly and are determined to tackle it 🙂 Diabetes is a serious condition, but it can be managed well with the right knowledge and a bit of effort, and often people find it leads them to feeling happier and healthier than they may have done for some time 🙂

I'd suggest starting by reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, and getting yourself a copy of the excellent Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. These will all help to give you a good understanding of what it is all about and how to tackle it. I'd also recommend looking into the GL (Glycaemic Load) diet - this is an approach to selecting and combining foods so that they have a slow, steady impact on blood glucose levels, and should help you with the types of food choices you make - it's often a revelation to discover things that we thought were 'healthy' aren't really that healthy. Moderation in everything is usually the key! 🙂

As you appear to have a meter to monitor the effects of food on your levels, you should have a read of Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S which explains how to do this efficiently and effectively 🙂

Any question you may have please ask! 🙂
