Hi everyone, newbie here, diagnosed with diabetes last November at age 62, with a high HBA1C. Initial suspicion is LADA, but still not confirmed - looking forward to hearing whether people have had similar experiences.

Thanks Inka!

Hi @JohnnyRam and welcome 🙂

There are quite a few people here who have LADA, so I'm sure some will be along soon to share experiences with you, though it's basically the same as type 1 in the end, just a bit slower to get there. There are also quite a few people here who were diagnosed with type 1 or LADA in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, so you're not alone in being a late starter! I had a very sudden onset and there was no doubt at all that I was type 1, but I was 44 at the time.

If you are LADA it's good that they've picked up that possibility so quickly as often people with LADA get told they're type 2 and have to fight to get tests done and correct treatment. Have you had GAD antibody and C-Peptide tests done (to check which type you are)? What treatment have they given you so far?

Good morning @JohnnyRam from another late starter.
It is good that you are being checked for LADA (which is a slow onset of T1) as the treatment is very different, although because the symptoms we experience are the same adults are often misdiagnosed.

Let us know what they decide.

Morning @SB2015 - I started a thread on the general msg board entitled ‘LADA or not?’ where there is a bit more detailed discussion. Do let me know if any of what has happened echoes your own experience.upshot is they are treating as type 1 while they continue to figure me out

Sounds sensible @JohnnyRam

Hope you get some clarity around your type of diabetes soon.

In the meantime there are a variety of links and topics in the ‘useful links’ thread that you might find helpful?

If you are LADA that is treated in exactly the same way as T1 so good that is their approach at present.
I shall look at your other thread.
