Hi there. I was diagnosed about 20 years ago with type one and over those years its safe to say i have had a mixed way of managing my condition and not always as well as I could.

Just wanted to say hi and start looking to be more active in my management and part of community of folk in similar situations. Hopefully i can contribute some of my experiences over the years as well.

Cheers
Graeme

Welcome @GDL1975. Just over 20 years T1, and also recently joined the forum.
Are you on, or have you been offered, a Libre 2 or other CGM? I started using the Libre 2 just over a month ago and it's already transformed my understanding of what's going on.

Hello and welcome to the forum @GDL1975 On this forum nearly everyone learns something new everyday no matter how long they have been diagnosed. 🙂 The help and info is mind boggling at times.

Hi and welcome.
Just 3 years in myself but I have learned lots from the good people on this forum and hopefully I can learn from your experience too. Would you like to tell us a bit more about your current management? ie. Are you MDI or pumping and as mentioned, do you have Libre or other CGM to help you?
Oh and do come and join us on the Group 7 day waking average thread as linked by @Benny G We generally ignore the "average" bit and just log in with our waking reading each morning and have a bit of chat and banter. It's a bit like a virtual coffee morning.

Welcome @GDL1975
Apologies but my mind juggled the letters in your user name and I can't stop thinking of you as Gladys.

I am a couple of years behind you but, as @Pumper_Sue mentioned, there is always something new to learn and this forum is a good place to learn.
Most people are friendly so it's not all serious stuff - this is a great place for sharing diabetes humour and rants that only other diabetics really understand.

Thank you. I have been using the Libre 2 for a wee while now. They are great although recently had several that have been faulty and told me to replace them hours after i have put a new one on.Great ideas though saves the fingers.

Sorry to hear you have experienced some faulty Libre 2 sensors. i hope you reported them to Abbott and got replacements. Sadly, a number of forum members have had problems with Libre 2. It does not have a great reputation for reliability.

Yeah i think they are great and far more accurate than the libre 1. just seem to have had a few poor ones. Reported to abbott each time and they sent out replacements.

Interesting that you find Libre 2 more accurate. I find Libre 1 incredibly accurate for me and after so many people have experienced problems/failures with Libre 2, I opted to stay with the original model when my consultant offered to upgrade me. Just shows how we are all different.

“So many”?
I while back, I noticed complaints but haven’t seen as many for some time. Plus, you have to bear in mind how many more people are using Libre nowadays.

Yes, people are still reporting problems and the OP in this case is yet another....
@Kaylz is still having significant failures I believe (although she may have stopped openly reporting them on the forum..... when you get past 16 failures out of 25 or whatever it is, it is no longer "news" and there are some members of the forum who were initially like yourself and not having issues with it, but then started to get failures and there have been a number of new members here on the forum recently reporting problems. I appreciate what you often say about people not reporting successes only failures, but I think we all agree it is a great product but you surely have to accept there are reliability issues. I wonder if some/much of that is to do with software rather than the sensors themselves. I know you use different software which may be partly why you don't experience problems. Maybe the Libre 1 works well for me because I use the reader. We have had at least one member (a pregnant lady, if I remember rightly) who was experiencing problems with Libre 2 using her phone and managed to get hold of a reader which seemed to solve the problem for her.

Also find libre 2 much more accurate than 1version plus with added alarms it's no brainer for me.

In last 2 years of using L2 only had 1 issue, turns out it was my phone but Abbott sent out replacement sensor. Hard to figure out why some people have issues with device, could be as helli says more people are prescribed device than with L1.

It's good at what it does.

The consultants and DSNs at my clinic do not expect it to be 100% accurate or replace BG testing entirely. They use the results to check what the TIR is, and therefore also time above and below, also to check on any trends revealed by the graphs. Because I never know how close to my BG the thing is, I couldn't possibly ever rely on it to calculate boluses or especially, corrections. So I don't - just insert it, scan it sometimes and ignore it. Yes I know the arrows are useful sometimes, but mainly they aren't cos they're horizontal and the number is comfortably around 7.0. 6.6 and horizontal right now. See it went higher between 6am and 9am, probably hit 8 or 9 before I got up. Did the same yesterday but worse, but there again I had a most unusual morning for me yesterday, which did involve me being concerned about various things at some points, whereas normally, I don't have anything that bothers me to consider!

I think it's more a box ticking tool for the HCPs - Oh look we know that 99% of our patients are in range 97.635% of the time, therefore that tells us and our employer we're doing a good job.

I'm well past that failure, I'm at least mid 20's out of about 30 sensors but I haven't had a sensor on for at least 3 maybe 4 weeks now so that's why I haven't reported anymore  xx
