Wow @trophywench
I feel sad when I read a response like yours. There is so much much more that I get out of my LIbre data than "how much time am I in range" that it feel you are missing out on an amazing resource. It is such a waste if that is all it is to you and your diabetes clinic.

What do you suggest I use it for then? - I am interested ! What do I ever do where it would be of great use?

I found my libre 1 to have a bigger variation to finger pricker compared to the libre 2 which seems to be closer and more accurate for me. They are great for what they do, i have been libre system for approx 3 years and apart from a couple falling off in early days i have had 5 failures. 3 have been where i have attached new sensor and started it then after an hour when i try to take a reading i have been told faulty sensor and then replace new sensor. I also had one that broke before it got near my arm as the little needle bit was bent. Abbott very good to be fair just mildly irritating to send all the info and have a week without a sensor each time. Overall happy with the system though especially the fingertips...

You’re supposed to use it to improve your diabetes control, use it to help with timing pre boluses as you can see when it kicks in and arrow starts dropping. To help notify you when to correct after meals if it rises too much. To help with basal testing. That sort of stuff.

As @Lucyr describes, you use it to make adjustments to your diabetes management.
Unlike finger pricks, Libre tells you what your blood sugar is doing all the time. It allows you to see when your levels spike between meals which suggests adjusting your pre-bolus time. If you do exercise, it tells you when your levels drop.
As we all know our basal requirements do not remain the same so often require tweaking. A Libre will provide the data to allow you to make the basal adjustments.
If you have LIbre 2, it can also tell you when you are going high or low to make corrections before you hypo (or hyper).

A Libre is a tool for you. It is not a tool for your DSN to tick a box. You need to learn how to use it. There are plenty of videos online which can help you with this, starting on the Freestyle Libre website.

If you are not using it for any of these things and continue to finger prick as many times as you did before you had a Libre, you are wasting valuable NHS money which can be used for people who will benefit from it.

Welcome to the forum @GDL1975

Great to hear you are wanting to give your BG management a bit of a once-over.

I did the same myself after 20ish years (about 10 years ago now!) and I have to say I learned more in the first 2 years of comparing notes with others on forums, reading blogs etc, than I had in the previous 15!

Hope it’s a fruitful time for you 🙂
