Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi

I thought I would sign up to say thanks.
I've been a reader since January and the advice on these forums have been invaluable.

I'm a 54 year old male and had the symptoms of diabetes towards the end of 2018.
I got checked out in January this year and was diagnosed Type 2.
Weight was 105.5kg, HbA1c 102, cholesterol at 7.4.
I was prescribed Metformin 3 times a day and 1 anti statin to lower my cholesterol.

It was a shock, I've hardly ever needed a doctor in my life but I was determined to do well.

I went on a diet, my own mix diet after reading several diet ideas in books and on internet, and exercise.
I stuck to mainly above ground vegetables, chicken, pork, eggs and wholemeal products.

At my 3 month check in April my weight dropped to 88kg, HbA1c at 48 and cholesterol at 3.5.
I was chuffed to bits and the hard work and will power was worth it.

I've now slowed down my weight loss, I'm at 82kg now and have the next 3 monthly check in July.

I feel great and have more energy. I hope to lower my medication in July but I'll see what my doctor says.
I'm also now enjoying a food treat once a fortnight.

Thanks for the all advice. 🙂

Wow! Well done you, that’s an awesome change, no wonder you feel good :D Keep up the diet and keep those numbers in check, you are totally rocking this 😉

Fantastic achievement, really well done!🙂

Terrific!

Well done and welcome to the forum.🙂

Congratulations and I’m glad you found so much help here.

Thank you all for your comments.

All the advice and little bits of info on this forum really helped and pointed me in the right direction and meant I wasn't alone and I guess this is the same for anyone who is newly diagnosed and read these pages. I've been an avid reader since being diagnosed in January.
What did we do before the internet!!

Although in my quest to find out everything about diabetes the internet became a scary place with lots of false information, thankfully this forum is a sane place.

Well done @WillPaul on your excellent progress.
I am glad that this forum has helped you so much.

Well done, what fantastic results, keep it up

Really good to hear Will, and well done on your progress! 🙂 I'm glad you have found the forum to be a 'safe' and helpful place to pick up information, our members are pretty good at spotting any 'dodgy' advice and challenging or reporting it, so it doesn't remain to mislead people in your situation 🙂
