I have been a type 2 diabetic since 2012 however I have only just joined this website. From then until very recently I have been blissfully ignorant of my diabetes and just how serious it might be. I had my eyes screened and a checkup annually and everything must have been okay as I never needed any type of follow up. Indeed everything was quiet until the next checkup and so it went on. When I was first diagnosed I did attend the first of a two part talk at the local hospital near to where I was then living. I fell asleep halfway through the talk/meeting and never went back.
Then in September last year I decided to take myself off the metformin I was taking. Don't ask me why as I am afraid I have no logical explanation other than I had beed swallowing these pills since 2012 and I decided that they couldn't be working that well as I still had this diabetes thing.
Back in June this year at my annual check up my blood sugar level was 81. I then got a call from the diabetes nurse who strongly suggested I went back onto the metformin.
