Hi all, I'm not exactly new here, I've been inactive for like 5 years. I feel a little disorientated; Isn't this forum used to be called Diabetes Support Forum (separate entity from Diabetes UK)?

Anyway, I'm a little bit of odd ball. Diagnosed with T1 in 2010, then DX changed to T2. Managing very well with diet and exercise, then, in 2012, my doctor said I'm not diabetic any more. Unusual, isn't it?
In 2017, I was relocated from the North of England to Canada. Because of the stress(?) I have gained some weight and my sugar is highish again. I have to do something about it !

I like walking / slow jogging / running / swimming / gym work / zumba, but I'm not as active as I used to be. I'm into healthy eating, too. I will pop in on this forum and join the conversation on exercise and diet. Talk to you soon ! 🙂🙂

Hi KayC, welcome back! 🙂 Yes, we've had a 're-branding' in about 2015, so it all looks very different, but hopefully a few names you remember are still around 🙂

That is quite a journey. I think the probable point at which the doctors got it totally wrong is when they told you that you weren't diabetic any more - once you have shown the susceptibility, then get things under control, you become 'well-controlled' rather than cured. It would appear that your control has slipped a bit recently, so it's good to see that you have recognised it and have taken steps to remedy the situation 🙂

There are some excellent low-carb recipes in our food section, so have a browse (I'd particularly recommend the ones from @mark Parrot 🙂 )

Let us know if we can help in any way and we will be very happy to help 🙂

p.s. I just had a quick look and you were last on here in 2010! 😱 🙂

Hi Northerner, 🙂
You and co are the ones who helped me a lot when I was first diagnosed in 2010 and feeling fearful and tearful about diabetes. That's why I'm back here, rather than looking for a Canada based diabetic forum. But, this time round, I'm not fearful or tearful, I know what I should do to lower my sugar level, and I know help is available. So I will (try to) enjoy the journey ! The thing is, Canada's winter is too long. We still have some snow on my walking path. I can't just put on my trainers and go out for a run ! :(🙂

I can understand your frustration! Winter here seems to have gone on forever, but I'm sure it doesn't compare to a Canadian winter! 😱 I hope things start to warm up soon for you 🙂 I have a rowing machine and exercise bike that I tend to use in the winter months as I'm not keen on running on dark, freezing mornings 😱

Hopefully, your new determination will lead you to feeling much healthier - if you feel you are slipping just let us know and we'll give you an extra kick 🙂

Hi Grovesy, thank you for the warm welcome. 🙂 Last year I was relocated from the UK to Canada, which was really stressful. Out of frustration, I had a lot of chocs and crisps, which I don't normally touch. As a result, I have a high reading now ! 😱Yes, I WILL REGAIN CONTROL🙂

Hello Kay, from a fellow newbie T2 (3 years in). I've heard areas over there still have snow and storm warnings. I hope things are going well otherwise.

We haven't met KayC but a warm welcome back to our friendly & supportive forum. You'll probably notice a few changes since you were last here so have a browse to see what we offer now.

I advocate the book CARBS & CALORIE COUNTER (£10.19 Amazon) www.amazon.co
Its a diabetics bible and contains more than 1700 photos of a wide range of popular food and drink items we consume. The Carborhydrate ~ Calorie ~ Protein ~ Fat ~ Saturated fat ~ and Fibre values are clearly displayed in colour coded circles below each photo. The book is the perfect tool for Carborhydrate counting in Diabetes ~ Weight management ~ Portion control and general healthy eating. It's worthy of buying a copy if you don't already have one.

Sorry about the length of my post KayC but I wanted to give you something to read at your leisure whilst you settle in to the forum ~ and to help you get back on track with your Diabetes. We are here to accompany you on your Diabetes journey so do please ask should you have any queries and we'll do our best to help you.

Good to have you on board again ~ take care and good luck x
