Just back from the GP armed with all my test results. The biggie is my A1c which is 70 / 8.6%. Looking at the conversion chart, it's the last value in the 'less than poor' control range (at least i'm not in the red 'very poor') but it's my worst result in a long long time (possibly ever, excluding diagnosis). But i'm not going to let it get me down – I know I've already turned a corner as the LibreLink estimates 66/8.2% for the last 37 days of data, which is how long i've been using the software.

My cholesterol was a bit high, which is to be expected given my diet over the last few months. Although it's still a tad disappointing because my cholesterol was always excellent. But again, I can control this through better choices. Liver, kidneys, thyroid, etc all normal so I've not done myself any lasting damage. Phew.

My Q-risk was 7.5 – so while i'm under the cut off of 10, she still wants me to think about statins, as I'm T1 and over 40. This is all quite new to me as we didn't have this assessment in Dubai. What is everyone else's experience with this?

Hopefully tomorrow's Diabetic clinic appointment at the hospital will be okay, if they have patience for my situation and believe I am turning it around.

I guess the most important thing is that my mental strength is back, so I know I've got this.

It's always disappointing when you get results that are much poorer than you have become accustomed to, but its impact is diminished when you were pretty much expecting it, are aware of the reasons for it, and know what you need to do to get things back under control 🙂 Even better when you have already made a good start, as illustrated by your Libre predictions! 🙂 I hope things go well at the hospital, it would certainly be unfair and illogical to take away something that can only help you get back on track, and to a much greater extent than the alternative of (the equally expensive) finger prick tests. If they try, send them over to me! 🙂

As you’ve said you’ve got this!
You know you can do better, and how to do it so just go for it!

Ah sorry that you’ve had a higher A1c than you are used to @missclb - it great that you are already tackling and working through some of the things you want to improve.

This is just information, it’s not a judgement on you, or the effort you were putting in, or a reflection of any of the other stuff you’ve been juggling.

Hope the hospital appointment is a good one, and they can see the work you are putting in - with the help of the Libre.

So the clinic appointment was totally fine. I saw a brilliant doctor who wasn't worried at all by my result, she gets how crazy things have been. She said that i just need to take time to settle and we agreed that i'd go back in 3 months. By which time, i'll have have a better Hb1Ac. The Libre is currently predicting 64 / 8.0% so should be no problem getting back down.

She wants me to consider the DAFNE course, which I will definitely think about when i have a bit more time on my hands.

And the great news is that I've got the libre sensors on prescription. Hurrah. Northie, you can stand down! lol.

That's great news @missclb - all sounds very positive and I've heard really good things about the DAFNE course (once you get past the 'resetting everyone to default' phase before adjusting things personally). Great news about Libre too. Hope you find that a very useful and infromative flow of information.

Well done on the Libre, and keep us updated on how you are getting on!

Well Caroline - they don't run DAFNE courses on an ongoing basis so you would have more than enough notice when and time to 'book holiday' with your 'employer' - ie tell the clients you won't be available between X and Y.

Should you happen to drop dead because you haven't looked after your health, they wouldn't get ANY warning!
