Hi all,

Thanks to all of you for the support - and the low carb info - I don't join in discussions much but I read everything 🙂

I was diagnosed with t2 with a HbA1c of 118 and with very low carb in 3 months I've got it down to 37. Lost 3 stone.

I'm very pleased with that - I've still got another 3 or 4 stone to lose.

My Dr is very supportive of low carb and that really helps.

I can't seem to get my morning self test down - it's always 8ish. But about 2hrs after breakfast/dinner it's 5.X or 6.X

Is there anything I can do about that or will it just get better with more weight loss?

Thankyou!

Hi Bigbob. Wow well done.
The fasting BG is often the last one to start coming down, it's just a matter of patience.
Another thing it could be is DP (dawn phenomenon) this is where you liver can start being a helpful little fellow, around 3am raising BGs to get your body ready for hunting, gathering :D and of course work.
BTW 8ish on waking is not bad at all really. give it a few more weeks and I'm sure you'll see the numbers dropping, if not come back and ask about DP

Well done and can we clone your doctor as there is loads out there that are against the low carb diet.

The morning one is the last one to come down I've been 3 months in too lost 2 st as well
How do you feel in yourself and did you find it hard, as I did in the first as I was so used to all that sugar or was it carbs really now down to 20-30g no more than 50g per day.

Love your numbers too my last one was 8.7% 72 and I want it well down for the next review next month.

Wow! Fabulous work and results Bob! 🙂 Well done! 🙂 As mentioned, the morning levels might be a touch of 'Dawn Phenomenon' - as you wake your liver starts releasing extra glucose to give you an 'energy boost' to start the day - which you'd rather not have! If you are not doing so already, I'd suggest taking your fasting reading as soon as possible after waking. A small protein snack will convince your liver you're no longer 'starving' (after your nightly fast!) and slow its extra glucose output. Some people find that a small protein snack before bed also helps to slow this effect, if indeed this is what is happening to you. If it's not this then I would imagine your waking levels just need a bit more time to settle into lower numbers as it readjusts from what may have been many months, or even years, of raised levels, whilst you were undiagnosed.

Keep up the good work! 🙂

Well done on your weight loss and getting your numbers down,

Spectacular result and effort @bigbob!

The morning levels will eventually come down particularly as you lose visceral fat from around the organs like the liver. I don't think you can be staying at 8 all nignt or your Hba1c wouldn't be so low. You're doing great! 🙂

Great results bigbob. All your hard work has really paid off 🙂

Well done 'not so big'Bob.
Fantastic results from your determined effort.

Well done, Bob.😛 That's brilliant!:D

I'm late on this thread (busy elsewhere). What a fantastic effort Bob, you should be glowing with pride. And it must be great working with your doc. Keep up the great work and the numbers will sort themselves out like magic. I'm mighty impressed.🙂

Brilliant result and amazing weight loss. You must be very disciplined with your diet to lose so much weight in a short period. Well done.
