Have I done this to myself?

And just to point out, you can even bring type 1 on yourself with bad lifestyle choices as i did it to myself.

Really? I didn't know that. I thought it was an immune thingy?

I'm with Ditto on this, if you are really Type 1 rather than misdiagnosed Type 2, nothing you did would have brought it on - where did you get that idea?

After 5 hospital admissions with pancreatitis on the last admission my pancreas decided enough was enough.
I was have twice daily finger pricks and all was ok until one test came up as 30mmol, they did another test 30 mins later and it was 31 something, next thing i know the diabetic nurse came in with my insulin and a test kit and started explaining about being type 1.
I was told it was down to the alcohol that i completely killed my pancreas.

Sorry, I may have missed an earlier explanation when you joined, but doesn't that make you 3c? Perhaps if you were diagnosed today rather than 5 years ago they would have said 3c, not Type 1.

This is really good, I have printed it off, may need lots of copies to plaster all over the place lolx

That's a brilliant card - I especially like no. 8 about declining offers of food 😱 ....The times I've said politely, No thank you, only for someone to respond, Oh go on, it's only once! Or, as I had on one occasion (declining gooey cakes), You've got to live! 🙄

My Mum always says "One won't hurt you." I can't stop at one anyways!

After doing a little reading about 3c i have to agree with you. As i was put on creon as well it certainly points in that direction.
Thank you for making me aware of this.

Thanks again everyone, you're all such a help. I think I have to remember that before I was diagnosed I had no idea what diabetes was...I thought that it was * something * to do with sugar, but no idea what, and was aware of the word insulin again without knowing what it was. I didn't know anyone with diabetes so it never seemed relevant I suppose. I bet loads of people are the same. Plus I'm still learning and this has been me for the last three months and I'm sure I'll learn more as I go along. Hopefully the next time someone says something daft/wrong/unhelpful/well meaning but not I can give them a wee bit more information about the condition.

@trophywench That print out is brilliant, definitely keeping that for future use! Thank you!

Hi, I was diagnosed during lockdown and I wouldn't exactly say I am still learning, it's more a case of I am trying very hard to start learning but am not confident that I have 'got it right' yet. Like you I had no idea what it was and am still working it out. Personally I haven't had any negative comments but I have only told very few people so far so I'm guessing that will come.

Hi Sparkle, if you want you can start a new thread under the newbies section and ask any questions you have if we can help.

Hope you feel a lot better about thing @Two_Hares. You got this brother, we're all here to help each other out. I wish you the best of luck with things. Keep us up dated if you feel low, you feel happy you've schooled the c**p outta someone when they were speaking **** let us know we're in it for the length.

Wow, i love that etiquette card.
Brought back a couple of memories when i was in the dating game. I met one lady for lunch and when i tested she looked horrified and as i was setting up my needle she actually said " so you inject like a junkie" and asked if i would do it in the loo..
I didn't do it at all as i got up and waved bye bye.
Another person i saw was ok..ish until i met her teenage daughter. She got really funny about me having to jab and said she didnt want her daughter to be introduced to needles in case it led her to drugs..
I guess we must all have similar stories of some sort and i will definitely be printing out a few copies of that card.

You obviously met the wrong women Adam, hope you have managed to meet one with a brain 🙂

Lol Pina. :D

I think I gave myself T2 and did my liver in due to lifestyle and pigging out but my brother-in-law who eats properly and isn't overweight and lives a normal life and isn't greedy or a drinker or overeater or non-exerciser has T2 as well just like his Dad so it's swings and roundabouts if you ask me. Don't beat yourself up about it.
Bless you.... i'm slowly learning... I've lost 20lb in 10 weeks, so its going the right way :D😛😉

My Mum always says "One won't hurt you." I can't stop at one anyways!
My partner does this - he also comes in from work every day and eats a sharing size bar of chocolate and drinks a can of full sugar Pepsi right next to me!

The forum is super helpful so definitely don't be scared to ask lots of questions on here. I'm still finding my way around it too but we can all help each other 🙂

Congrats on the loss 🙂 I've only managed 5lb so far but like you say, it's in the right direction!
