Thank you for the information! I did try slow-release metformin, but unfortunately, I didn’t tolerate it well. I appreciate the guidance on the NICE recommendations regarding MounJaro. Given that metformin has been my only medication so far, I understand the need to explore other options first.
I’m definitely considering scheduling an appointment with my GP or practice nurse to discuss my medication alternatives, especially the “flozins” that may be more suitable for me.
Also, I wanted to mention that I had surgery at Florida Weight Loss MD, which has helped me significantly in my weight loss journey. I’m curious about the MounJaro injection cost and how it might fit into my treatment plan, but I want to ensure I explore all my options first.
Thanks again for your help!
I had a very bad reaction to metformin when I was pregnant and tried it again recently and still can't tolerate it. I have never heard of "flozins" as an alternative and this is not something my GP has offered me. As posted, I have decided to purchase a three month supply of Mounjaro, privately at a cost of £145 a month in the hope that I can reset back to my blood glucose levels when I was in remission.
So far, for me, the side effects are not nearly as bad as metformin but I certainly feel I am on medication. The effect of my blood glucose was almost immediate. I had a three point drop on my fasting BG within 48 hours (first in months) and I will try and stick with it. First week in and food tastes a bit odd and I feel slightly spaced out but I am not doubled up in pain with crippling stomach cramps, as I was on metformin.
Incidentally, my GP has been informed that I am taking Mounjaro and I went through quite a lengthy online assessment - more detailed that for my metformin prescription. I wouldn't have taken it without the assessment. I also had to prove my ID and upload a very unflattering full length photograph to prove my BMI. Personally, I wouldn't start any private prescription route without my medical care practitioners being aware of it.
Good luck with your discussions. I may raise the "florzins" discussion at my next review for when I stop the Mounjaro. Given your sensitivity to metformin, I would love to hear how you get on with Florzins if you do take that route.
