And the winners are...novorapidboi and Blythespirit with a well-predicted
5.5% (have just realised he didn't even mention the new units!)
Down from 5.9% last time, so pretty happy with that all round. He did say that normally he would be worried about hypos with that sort of HbA1c, but not with me
Cholesterol was 4.4, with HDL at 1.3. Kidney function and blood pressure fine, so pretty good overall.
We did discuss my low insulin requirements, especially my low basal, and he did say that nothing really surprises him about diabetes any more. He says it's almost certain that I am producing some home-grown insulin with the low overall levels of insulin I inject. Apparently a fully-functioning pancreas will produce about 20 units of insulin a day, but as it is delivered directly to the liver it is used much more efficiently than when we inject, so the fact that I am injecting such small amounts suggests that I am 'topping up' to a large extent, rather than having to cover everything with injected insulin. He added that he has been trying to persuade the PCT to do more routine testing for natural insulin in people like me, but currently they don't want to fund it
Had a good natter about running as he was considering possibly doing a half marathon for the first time in many years. Pretty clear that my running helps with my BG control enormously.
All good stuff!
