Guess the HbA1c

My real guess is 5,3 but just to prove that I'm not scared I'll also say 6.1 (but I don't mean it):D

I just got my appointment through today and it's not until 6th December. Gives me a month to lose the weight I put back on after the last one! 🙂

And the winners are...novorapidboi and Blythespirit with a well-predicted 5.5% :D (have just realised he didn't even mention the new units!)

Down from 5.9% last time, so pretty happy with that all round. He did say that normally he would be worried about hypos with that sort of HbA1c, but not with me 🙂

Cholesterol was 4.4, with HDL at 1.3. Kidney function and blood pressure fine, so pretty good overall.

We did discuss my low insulin requirements, especially my low basal, and he did say that nothing really surprises him about diabetes any more. He says it's almost certain that I am producing some home-grown insulin with the low overall levels of insulin I inject. Apparently a fully-functioning pancreas will produce about 20 units of insulin a day, but as it is delivered directly to the liver it is used much more efficiently than when we inject, so the fact that I am injecting such small amounts suggests that I am 'topping up' to a large extent, rather than having to cover everything with injected insulin. He added that he has been trying to persuade the PCT to do more routine testing for natural insulin in people like me, but currently they don't want to fund it :(

Had a good natter about running as he was considering possibly doing a half marathon for the first time in many years. Pretty clear that my running helps with my BG control enormously.

All good stuff! :D

Great HbA1C Alan, .....not surprising though! 😉 ....also you told your team your thoughts and they agreed with you (surprise, surprise! 🙄)

Well done Alan ( as always 🙂 )

Brill Alan.

Now just share that natural insulin round a bit, will you? :D

Congrats! All of us now have something to aspire to

Great resuls (as expected) Alan. Do you mind me asking what your 60 day average is... From the 'showing off' thread average I'd have expected a slightly lower result from the average-to-HbA1c conversion I tend to use and I'm always interested in how accurate its predictions are.

I still have my ups and downs (!!! 😉) Mike, so my control isn't always as brilliant as it has been over the past couple of weeks - although it's never been really bad. Not sure about 60 day, but my 30-day average is 5.78 mmol/l and my 3-month average 5.88 mmol/l - so somewhere in between! Over the past week my average has been 5.13 mmol/l 🙂

Gr must be getting my posts mixed up, said well done elsewhere LOL, so you get a double well done Alan x

My 'standard' formula (which got my last A1c pretty much bang on) suggests 5.3% from 5.88 so it's clearly underestimating a bit at that level. From what I can gather it was empirically created from a whole load of actual results and was the calculation that most closely matched all of those.

Approx HbA1c = (AvgBG + 2.52)/1.583

To get a 5.5 with so few hypos is some achievement, well done and long may your good control continue🙂

Well Done Alan Brilliant results 🙂

Nice one Northerner, a big pat on the back for your pancreas too (assuming it has one).

Andy 🙂

Wow, that's fantastic news Alan! Well done you 🙂 xx
