Got my Bloods back !!

Dalsap

New Member
Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
So I was diagnosed on 23 /12 /2025 with a severe case of what my doctors called of extreme poorly managed diabetes at 109!
Also high cholesterol!
The doctors prescribed metformin and statins.
I declined and decided on a healthy diet and exercise.
I ditched all carbs for 1 month and slowly introduced small amounts of carbs - eating the carbs after my protein.
Ditched white rice for wild .
Ditched white bread for rye and whole grain and multi seed sour dough.
Stopped eating Bananas apples satsumas- switched to berries and dates when I needed a sugar kick.
I joined the gym and did 45 minutes rowing or cross trainer every day and at weekends I walked 5 miles each day and cycled over a week for 1.5 hours.
I purchased a libre 2 and downloaded the app whilst I explored my diet and watched the foods that affected my sugars ..over 2 months.
I took off the libre2 after 2 months as I was confident in following my diet for a month.
My doctors run my bloods and my result la came back on Thursday = down to 42 ! In 3 months
I am very happy
Early days !
Stick with the plan !

What a fantastic result, well done for going with the dietary approach and exercise, it just shows it an be done.

That’s great news for you.Ive just been diagnosed this week and wasn’t really told too much about eating etc ,just given metformin tablets so I’m going to try low carb. Just got a Dexcom gloucose reader and trying to keep levels down as much as possible. Hopefully I can improve things when I go back in 6 months

Low carb works well for many people and if you have a forward thinking GP then they will often give people a period of 3 months to try a dietary approach before medication if they are committed to doing that sadly many are not which is likely why so many just get the prescription pad out.
If you are going the low carb route then this link may help you https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
It is often better to reduce you carbs over a few weeks as that can help to minimise issues with eyes and nerves that can happen.
I certainly had problems with my eyes when I reduced my carbs in one go.

Well done @Dalsap that is for sure a great result, just keep doing what you are doing, because it's working for you :star:

Wow that is impressive. It didn't occur to me to refuse medication despite losing a stone between diagnosis and start of medication. I lost focus when I was put on an SGLT2 partly because I was worried about eating sufficient carbs when I had been happily pootling along between. 80 and 120 carbs. I think I need to have a reset including more exercise.
Well done.

I watched a few pod casts - also -Dana white on diabetes and also the glucose goddess .
For me the potential side effects of meds did not make any sense. Kidney and liver problems-the more meds to fix it these ‍♂️

They admitted they can’t control what people do at home - so they have to cover themselves by prescription.

Congratulations, that is a great result. Stick with the plan it clearly works.

Congratulations on your amazing HbA1c result
Your lifestyle changes are working really well for you. Onwards and downwards as they say on this site!

Congratulations on your HbA1c reduction @Dalsap - you must be over the moon.

Some of the sources you have linked to are slightly controversial, and may need a little caution in filtering their suggestions, but I’m glad you have found a system that works so well for you.

Congrats on your recent results.
Going low carb works for many (T2's) but not everyone, so finding what works for each individual is key.
Keep us updated with your progress, cheers
