For years I've carried a few things in my pockets or in the glove compartment to treat hypos -

Glucose tablets; but these go absolutely solid, like bullets
Chocolate; but that melts or goes messy
Jelly babies; but they get squashed, or go sticky, and attract fluff

I do replace them now & again, but then they get the same problems

Have you any other suggestions, please?
Are glucose gels any good? I see them recommended. I've never used them, but my previous GP says they don't taste very nice, though, of course, I'd eat them if I had to

I keep a tube of fruit pastilles in the car and in my handbag. Once opened, the exposed one at the end may go a bit hard, the the rest of them underneath are fine. It’s what my DSN recommended, though I do find if I need them on a walk, and I try and continue walking to keep up with the rest of the family, I have bitten my tongue or cheek trying to chew them and walk at the same time whilst being a bit uncoordinated because of the hypo. (These days, I make everyone stop while I chew the first couple.)

I use GlycoTabs. Unlike Dextrose, these come in plastic tubes which seem to seal well so the tablets don’t go hard.
I bought a couple of tubes years back and now top them up from the large pots I buy in bulk from eBay.
I found fruit pastilles, jelly babies and other sweeties too tempting for other members of my household so stick to something easy to measure and clearly not a sweet.

My take on Gluco Tabs as they dont taste nice so I was likely to over indulge.

Like @helli Lift Glucose Chews, come in a 10 tube designed specifically to stop them drying out, I refill the smaller tubes from 50 tubs too xx

Thanks @Kaylz. You have reminded me that Glucotabs were renamed Lift.
Might be easier to find if the OP looks for the right name
In my defense, me tubes are getting on a bit.

I had Glucogel tubes for ages but found it a pain if I couldn't dispose of the opened tube straight away, eg when out walking or boating. I ended up with a lot of sticky anorak pockets.

Went back to Dextro Energy but they seem to taste weird now.

I'm keen to try Lift - any recommendations for best flavour? The less sweet-tasting the better if that makes sense!

@Kaylz mentioned mini bags of drumsticks squashies some time ago & I find them really handy. They come in mini bags of 20 & each mini bag has 7 which is about equal to 2 JB’s so, I always carry 2 bags when I go anywhere. They’re sealed & airtight so, don’t go hard in their mini bags! I take 1 bag to treat 4 to 3mmol hypo’s & 2 bags for below 3, which I haven’t needed to do as I like to run BS a bit higher when going out anywhere!

@everydayupsanddowns also, mentioned mini bags of skittles & I tried them but, I didn’t like the flavours & they a bit higher in carbs about 17g, I think, a bag.

I think you'd be best going for the lemon & lime not that I've tried them myself but the raspberry and the blueberry ones are lush but quite sweet and I imagine the orange may be the same xx

don't suppose you have the link handy to PM me my lovely? xx

I use...

Trouser pocket:
mini bags of skittles - 17-18g per bag I think
drumstick squashie mini bags - 10-12g per bag I think
haribo mini bags - 12g per bag I think?

Emergency trouser pocket backup:
Little tin with 4x sugar sachets

Coat pocket:
jelly babies sharing bag 6g each
Occasionally Tangfastics

I used to ALWAYS use fruit pastilles, but they changed the formulation a few years back, and in my pockets they ended up in a big gooey mess with foil stuck all over. If @Robin isn’t having trouble with them, maybe they’ve switched back to the old recipe?

Also good to to have some glucose about to avoid hypo's too! (when using afreestyle libre, with a downward arrow).

Well you buy a few tubes of Rowntree's pastilles and chuck em in a cupboard then when you need one they've gone hard and you have to suck some of the rockard sugar off the outside so you can bite and then chew. Just the same as they used to be years ago!
3 = 10g.
