Getting hold of test results?

Patient Participation Group, I think.

I've signed up to the online thing. I can order repeat prescriptions, & before C19 could make appointments.
No access to test results or any patient records at all.

It's standard HCP practice to keep the patient uninformed. I always have problems with any info at all. Even though there's been things in Nice that says they should at least offer (which they never do), and actually just give the info in some circumstances

Just waiting on a delivery this morning then I’m going to ring the surgery to query access to test results. See what their response is.

Like @trophywench my hospital results are not included on the Practice system, as it is a different computer system. That is why I have my tests done at GP which are sent off, I can access as soon as they are back at GPs, and my consultant can access them because the tests were done at the hospital. If I get them done at the hospital I can only access them after my consultant appointment.

It is a case of finding your way round local systems, and making them work for you.

Yeah I think what you have described is how my area works.

The results I want access to are a load of tests the endocrinologist did in January & April/May time relating to hormones & endocrine disorders, which were ordered by the hospital and performed at the hospital.

For some reason though I’m struggling to get anyone to give me these in written format.

All I and the GP have received is a basic, two sentence letter saying “all normal”, the GP said it wasn’t worth the consultants time writing it as it gave no information to the GP about anything.

I hope that you get a response from the consultant.

I did have one or two stupid conversation with our Practice, where a receptionist would just tell me the word bits like Normal, High, ... I would ask for the numbers. She told me that there are lots. I would assure her that I have a piece of appear ready. It was not her fault, as she was no doubt under time pressure, and did not have a knowledge of the tests. So much better with the computer system which gives me the actual numbers and also includes previous results either as a list or as a graph.

It still doesn’t solve the issue of the hospital system not talking to the Practice one. My GP has the ability to get into the hospital results. I am not sure whether that is standard but he has done that in the past where a letter has not yet come through.

Mine works both ways, Surgery to hospital and vice-versa. I get slow mail
from the HCP with any results and also phone calls from the DSN every week.

My area is South Devon.

Just because I have the blood drawn by the phlebotomist at our GP surgery and she sends em off to the lab, the test forms sow the tests have been ordered by Dr G at the hospital D clinic. identified by my hospital number, so that's who gets the results. If I want them to go to the GP a) the surgery would have to pay for the tests and b) dunno if the system where the partners at my surgery enter a card into the slot in their keyboard and type in something to get to 'me' is available in reverse c) I would have to visit the GP first and see a doctor to ask them to request the tests - when I already have them from the hospital consultant!

I've been dealing with seveal hospitals. Some share the same system as GP practice (along with several other services), and what they do shows up for the GP practice.
One of the hospitals doesn't share with GP practice or other hospitals, because it's in a different CCG and uses a different system. They send letters to the GP practice, whitch is then put on the system. That one hospital is the one place that has any patient involvement, they copy me in on all letters 🙂
Hospitals are supposed to offer to do that when you are seen.

I finally have a response from the hospital. The consultant phoned me. She’s going to type another letter with the results.

If she had done that on the first letter it would have saved all this.

What is a PPG?
Hi. it's a Patient Participation Group and I understand under an NHS instruction all surgeries should have one.

Is there any link to this policy?
I can't find one specific link. It has been a moving target, but here are two links. You can Google others:

I gather it's optional whether GPs provide access to letters/notes from hospitals etc and I don't have that level of access but do have access to my test results etc

I have access to Patient Access but doesn’t seem to be a test results area. Unless my surgery don’t give access to this feature?

Mark, in your shoes, I would check for any letters (which on SystemOnline includes emails) as well as test results. There may be something in an attachment that hasn't been manually keyed into their own data. I know I have found that to be the case between my Endo and GP.

Do you mean letters on the PatientAccess?

I don't trust them. They told me every year "normal" then this year "doomed" pillocks. :(

There's a notice on our surgery wall that it's up to patients to ask for their results.

So - have you asked the surgery what they are doing to give patients online access to their results? Or rung your CCG to ask them what they know about what your surgery are doing about it?

Have I heck. I lay low where the docs are concerned, they keep wanting me to go for scans and cameras down, I'm trying to stay under the radar, plus I'm not very good at verbal stuff. We are supposed to be able to go online for our records but I don't know anybody who does and in a way I'd rather not know, ostrich again! 🙂
