I did think I may be writing this from hospital this morning. Yesterday afternoon Mr Eggy and I visited his brother, had a natter and a cup of tea, as you do. Left to go, missed my step, fell backwards into their porch and landed hard on the stone shelving that runs around it, on my lower back. Ouch!! I was picked up, given a cup of tea as I was in shock, hobbled to the car and we drove home. It was the longest half hour of my life. By this time I could feel my back swelling and I was very uncomfortable. Got home, needed the loo, pulled myself up using the bannisters, done the deed and then that’s when it all went downhill. I could feel my back had a huge lump on it and was hot and hard. I sat on the edge of the bed and tried to get my jeans off as I couldn’t pull them back up over my back. That’s when the excruciating pain started so bad I was screaming with it. An ambulance was called. I was on the floor by now on my stomach as it was the only position that stopped the pain. They were here in 5 minutes. One hour later, and two more ambulances, five paramedics had moved as much of our furniture as possible, managed to get me strapped to a scoop, and lifted me over our bannister and down our dog leg staircase, head first! To cut a long story short, I was X rayed as they thought I may have broken my pelvis, that wasn’t the case thank goodness but I have the biggest haematoma known to man! I fainted a couple of times as my BP went very low and I was put on a drip, luckily the D behaved itself. Thankful for small mercies! I was home at 10.30 with painkillers and a warning that the bruising would spread down my leg and I could possibly be in pain for a few weeks and it could also take that long for the haematoma to re absorb back into my body. I haven’t slept very well as every time I moved it was agony. But hey, I was convinced I had broken my back so I’ll take a bruised bum any day. What a numpty I am!
